3 youths arrested for throwing concrete blocks from bridge onto expressway

Police in Kumamoto City have arrested three youths — two aged 19 and one aged 18 — on suspicion of attempted murder after they threw concrete blocks from a bridge at trucks on an expressway below.

According to police, the two 19-year-olds attend a vocational college, while the 18-year-old is a company employee, Fuji TV reported. They cannot be named because they are minors.

The incident occurred at around 12:55 a.m. on May 20, police said. The suspects, who have admitted to the charge, threw several concrete blocks, each weighing between 10 and 13 kilograms, onto trucks traveling along the Kyushu Expressway. One block landed on the back of a truck. Three other trucks were also hit by the blocks. There no injuries among the drivers.

If they're bored, arrange to have them stand below that bridge and catch falling cinder blocks while dodging cars.

There seems to be a spelling error in the article ...

”They cannot be named because they are MORONS.”

There, fixed it.

26 ( +27 / -1 )

18 & 19 are minors? Not minor enough to not be able to lift a cinderblock, old enough to know the devastation that their actions could cause. Damn, what has to happen to a person for them to think this behaviour is possibly ok?

23 ( +24 / -1 )

18 and 19 year olds are not youths. If they can vote they are adults. These idiots are lucky they didn’t kill anybody and should be facing an adult court.

18 ( +20 / -2 )

This is a huge problem in Germany, I'm surprised they do this here too. They have to be charged with attempted murder, because that's what it is.

18 ( +18 / -0 )

Oh boy! car and truck drivers have escaped with the narrowest of margins, IF, one of these falling block had gone through the windscreen it would have killed a driver out right, or the car/truck would have gone out of control and crashing into the barrier or other cars trucks, no wonder they have been charged with attempted murder. what a stupid, stupid act.

At least once this has happened in the USA and it has caused death. Those boys should be locked up, alas , this is Japan.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

Japan seems to have a very strange and distorted view of what constitutes a minor; apparently not old enough to determine right from wrong but old enough to determine the constitution of the government by voting?

No question but that this is attempted murder, though at their age they should be facing an adult court, and the full consequences of their actions.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

Hang on, hang on... I thought 18 was not the age of adulthood in Japan, but let's take a look at the Japanese logic:

you can vote at 18 because you are adult, but cannot drink or smoke because you are too young. You can start paying certain taxes at 18 and do other things adults do, but in the eyes of the law, you are the same as a three-year-old child when it comes to crime.

These guys should be locked up for 10 years or more for their stupidity, but one of them will be out of wherever they are sent in literally less than a year, with no record, because the government considers him months away from being able to distinguish right from wrong.

There was a case like this in NZ a while back, driver was killed - they got done for murder.

Young people do stupid things, always have, always will; seems that stupidity is a renewable resource.

What a bunch of losers. I bet they all went crying home to their mothers after they got arrested.

What I would do to throw blocks of concrete at these little rats

7 ( +10 / -3 )

Slap on the wrist? I hope they get good jail time. Drivers have been killed in similar incidents. Name and shame, I say.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

You never heard things like this happening before.

That's coz there wasn't any internet around.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

In WW2 18 and 19 year olds were very much considered young men perfectly capable of fighting for the Emperor.

Here's why.

They cannot be named because they are minors.

I hate this stupid law....I don't know why the media has to protect people like this! They are old enough to be held responsible for their actions.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Just why the hell would anyone think doing this is a good or 'fun' idea!? I hope they get the full punishment they deserve.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Murderous blockheads. The concrete weighed between ten and thirteen kilograms and could have caused very major carnage. Please, no slap on the wrist. A good stiff sentence should serve as a deterrent and show people that this was taken seriously.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

A couple of people have been killed and badly injured from teens doing the same....

How stupid can you be?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

but in the eyes of the law, you are the same as a three-year-old child when it comes to crime.

This is wrong (again). In Japan, people can be tried in normal criminal courts from age 14.

Look, these young adults, need a serious lesson is Life - thankfully they did not cause any death or injury... but they could have!

When they do something that is totally f#!k3d-up (sorry) messed up, they deserve to be taught about what being "held accountable for your actions" really means. The Parents weren't able to do so, which I would not blame them for, but, there has to be a way in which Society can help these Young Adults transition into Adult-hood and understand responsible behaviour.

Fighto!Today 08:03 am JSTDespicable. Innocent lives could so easily have been lost.

At the very least it could've caused an accident as a driver sways to avoid getting hit. Those punkass thrill seekers need some jail time for this, at least for being a public nuisance.

How is this the fun thing to do? Whatever happened to staying home and playing games?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Boys will be boys.

I saw a video where a woman's life was drastically changed because some kid did the same thing. She died after putting up a fight to live a normal life, and her husband ended up committing suicide because he was filled with grief cause he was driving when she was in the car when it happened. So no. That whole "boys will be boys" claim doesn't fall under this category. They are playing games with the lives of others!

"But, but . . . they're our precious, little darlings, who have been pampered from day 1.  Why, there's no way they can know the diff between right and wrong.  That happens, magically, when they turn 20 (currently)."

Uh huh.  Show of hands of all who believe that.  Humans have always learned actions have consequences growing up, good or bad, and the Japanese are no different.  The 3 subhuman pigs in the story, however, chose to ignore that and prove what badass cowards they are.

Clearly it's time for Japan to lower legal adulthood to 18, but pls refer to my "But, but.." comment above.

It happened near my home city a few years ago. It didn't kill a driver but it bashed his windshield and the flying glass blinded the driver. Them juvenile turds thought they were being cute. Ever since that viaducts and other bridges in my city have been adorned with very high fences - too high for anyone to be tossing junk onto the streets from.

This act is too common to be ignored. The crime seems to be committed by teens in most cases. Thrill seekers. Perhaps if it were treated with the same scrutiny that smoking is, we'd see far fewer incidents and casualties.

The voting age was reduced to 18. Adult life should also start at 18 years. They deserve a period of youth detention.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

And the parents were busily playing pachinko or watching idiotic games shows ? Or non existent in the up bringing of these delinquents.....

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Despicable. Innocent lives could so easily have been lost. Put a sack on them and throw these little rats off the same bridge. No one would care.

Oh Man...what is going on in the heads of young people these days....

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

As a young child, I remember a young white child of German descent, . . .  who in his anger

did such a thing, and causing broken windshield glass to the driver below . . . .

You never heard things like this happening before. Societal values seriously on the decline.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

No, not even remotely close. Your ignorance is getting tiresome. Look up the affirmative defense of infancy before posting such drivel.

Kids think they are in West Philly?
