Police in Utsunomiya City, Tochigi Prefecture, said Monday they have arrested a 32-year-old woman on suspicion of strangling her 61-year-old mother at their home.
According to police, Yuko Ono strangled her mother Shigeko with a cord at around 9 p.m. Sunday, Fuji TV reported. Ono called police who rushed to the scene.
Ono's mother was taken to hospital where she died a short time later.
Ono was quoted by police as saying that she and her mother had been in a heated argument at the time of the incident.

It's sad to read about but I don't think this happens in any higher percentile than other places, like the US. Japan is just so small in size that what would be deemed "local" and maybe only on the state's local news channel in the US is on a much larger more nationalized news channel in Japan. That being said, I hope this lady gets more than just a slap on the wrist, murder is still murder.
