Police in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, have arrested a 32-year-old woman on suspicion of killing her mother and grandparents at their apartment last month. The woman, Yukari Mizokuchi, has denied the charge, police said.

According to police, the 62-year-old husband of Yumiko Mizoguchi, 55, contacted emergency services at around 5:15 p.m. on Sept 13, saying that he had found his wife dead upon his return home from work, Fuji TV reported. When police arrived, they found Mizoguchi's body on the first floor of the house, her body bearing multiple stab wounds. The bodies of her father, Fukushichi Yagi, 80, and her mother, Tetsuko, 78, were found on the second floor of the same apartment, where they were residing, police said.

Yukari was found in another room with what police believe were self-inflicted knife wounds. She has been in hospital recovering since the incident. Police charged her with the murders on Tuesday.

Local media reported that Yukari had been consulting with the police regarding her mother's strong disapproval of her romantic relationships.

Police said they also received complaints about noise-related troubles within the family. Neighbors said the family pretty much kept to themselves.

Seems to me that they weren't strictly keeping to themselves if their neighbors were complaining.

Not trying to justify murder here by any stretch. But, this lady is definitely not the first to be pushed over the edge by the ever present existence of hyper-conservative, nosy people who have nothing better to do than judge others and tell others how to be (and who to be with). I think a 32 year old should have some say over who she dates. These attitudes are really damaging society here in this 'safe' country.

With that said, this is an all-around tragedy if you ask me.

Petty crime and general thuggery are quite low in Japan, but they seem to make up for it with serial killers and family murders. This one is both.

I called it when the story first broke. I said something like "Three people dead and she only has a hurt arm? She'll be getting charged soon"

@sensei258,

I think we were all thinking the same thing at the time. I certainly was and alluded to it.

Hmm, at 32 years old, I don't see why you'd wanna remain at home with your parents and grandparents...that must have been rather annoying. Talk about privacy...or the lack there of. That's one problem with a lot of Japanese and it doesn't seem to bother a soul. Weaning should have taken place a long time ago. Now, if you realize that your mother disapproves of your relationships, that should be more reason to gtfo of their apartment. Get a job, get a life...or do what many other Japanese females do...get a man, marry him, stay home, get paid.

Now, did you really have to kill your mother and grandparents!??!?? Really?? What did the grandparents do to deserve this?
