Police have arrested an unemployed 34-year-old man on suspicion of killing his 90-year-old grandmother with whom he lived at her apartment in Yokohama on Monday, police said.

According to police, the woman, Hideko Mizutani, was found lying on a sofa, bleeding from a stab wound to the neck, by her daughter who had come to visit her at the apartment in Minami Ward at around 9:30 a.m. Monday, Sankei Shimbun reported. A blood-stained knife was found nearby.

Mizutani was taken to hospital in an unconscious state but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said the victim's grandson, Taisuke Mikami, was not home when his grandmother was found but police located him in Naka Ward and took him in for voluntary questioning.

He was arrested on Monday afternoon after admitting that he killed his grandmother who was wheelchair-bound.

I wonder if he was the caregiver or was he just lazy and sponging off her pension?

I especially hate it when someone is lucky enough to live that long to die by the hands of someone.

She survived WWII, only to be done in by a grandson. It is hard to imagine what a 90 year old woman could have done to deserve this. Nothing. Death sentence to the grandson! I don't want him in prison living off my tax dollars the rest of his life.

There were many such useless men who just know parasiting over the elders. A common problem in wealthy society

Um, which parallel universe do you live in? Less than 5% of Japanese people are wealthy. This guy is just 34 year old parasitic NEET living off his grandma's pension. She probably refused to give him money for pachinko so he killed her.

they had "NEET" similar to this economic plight, always making romping noises above me at a previous residence, it almost got to me, cause the mgmt did nothing, and I sensed it was a setup , so informed the embassy for records purposes if something went down on "its" side.

thanks

"her daughter who had come to visit her"
