Police in Fukuroi, Shizuoka Prefecture, have arrested a 37-year-old woman on suspicion of abusing her elementary school-age daughter by beating her legs and whipping her on the back and thighs.

According to police, the woman, who is a temp worker, has admitted to assaulting her daughter on Feb 19, Kyodo News reported. The incident came to light on Feb 20 after an employee at a child welfare center noticed the injuries on the girl and contacted police.

Police said the child suffered severe knee injuries and that she told them her mother used a belt to whip her back and thighs.

Police quoted doctors as saying the girl’s injuries will take about one month to heal.

The suspect and her child lived alone, police said.

Dave,

Again, I don't condone what the mother did, however, when you are alone, working and tired and if a child is extremely difficult with zero help it could have made her snap in the moment.

My friend was always on edge what their child was going to do next and who would appear at the door because the child was always getting into trouble and this friend was doing their absolute best to prevent it.

Until you walk someone's shoes you can never judge.

Kids in japan are mostly demi-Gods the way tgey are treated by their parents. Experienced this in my 30 years of teaching in elemejtary schools and junior high. Sometimes they just drive parents into instant madnesd! However, this is not condoning what tge mother did. Somehow parents have a responsibility to raise their kids properly.

Where is the dad or family or even neighbours to help ?

I hope it was the first time, and that the mother realizes her failure.

Physical injuries are not as bad as psychological ones.

I am in no way condoning the actions of the mother; however, we don't know if this child is an extremely difficult child with ADHD and or other mental issues that pushed this single working mother over the top.

Ummmmm................., where to start with this comment. "I am in no way condoning the actions of the mother; however,.." Uhhhh, yes you are! "..we don't know if this child is an extremely difficult child with ADHD and or other mental issues that pushed this single working mother over the top." So taking out a leather belt and whipping a child, beating a child, anyone for that matter, doesn't seem irrational to you? How about my wife for example, if she pushes me over the top with her constant nagging, can I backhand her in the face, of course with an open hand and not a closed fist? That's if she pushes me "over the top"?

It doesn't end there. The more abuse is that girl's psychological injuries that may never heal. I'm sure many have had some kind of mental abuse that still lingers on. I sure do from my early elementary school years from my teachers who were nuns. Man, were they strict. Nowadays, what they did can be reported to authorities. I hope that girl gets the help she definitely needs. Bless her and off to prison goes that awful excuse for a parent.

No child should ever suffer any physical punishment.

Even though corporal punishment was banned in 1947 it wasn't until 2020 that corporal punishment of children

was banned.. hard to break the cycle when you received the same (if not worse) when you were a child.

I assure you being hit with a shortened hose pipe sliced in half was far worse... a belt sounds like a luxury.

In Japan, the government only offers one year of support for mentally challenged children and after that a parent is left to defend for themselves. I had a friend over there and this person's child was extremely difficult, and this friend could not find help for their child, and they had a very rough patch and with no government support.

Prayers for this child, and prayers that this working mother can receive help and mental support.

the woman, who is a temp worker

Being temp worker must be hard.

Damn. This crazy shrew must be jailed and never be allowed to be with children ever again. So she's 37? She's got some serious growing up to do!
