Police in Akiruno, Tokyo, have arrested a 38-year-old unemployed man on suspicion of murder after he stabbed his 37-year-old brother with a knife at their home after an argument over their 74-year-old bedridden mother.

According to police, the incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. on Tuesday at their apartment, Kyodo News reported. Police said Kazuya Yoshioka has admitted to the charge and quoted him as saying, “I lashed out and stabbed my younger brother because he would verbally abuse our mother every day.”

After stabbing his brother, Yoshioka called 110. The victim was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead just before 8 p.m. Police said Yoshioka used a knife with a blade measuring about 20 centimeters to stab his brother twice in the back.

For such a 'safety' country these kinds of crimes sure do happen a lot.

What will become of her now?

And where is PM Kishida’s promised support for Japan’s distressed families?

Where is the social safety net in Japan??

For a country that prides itself on looking after the group at the expense of individuals they sure do throw a lot of the group on the scrap heap if they can’t afford access to proper care!

Just an avoidable tragedy all round!

Taking care of sick family members for a long time takes a huge toll, in Japan this is culturally considered desirable and "good" but there is no real reason not to ask for help and for the government to provide it. This should not have happened.

One thing that stuck out in this article was the older brother said "“I lashed out and stabbed my younger brother because he would verbally abuse our mother every day.” Perhaps the older brother who was unemployed because he was taking care of his mother took on most of the responsibilities he understood that his mom was not capable of being who she use to be, while the younger brother who perhaps also helped but let the stress wear him out and turned his anger to verbal abuse something the older brother didn't tolerate seeing his younger brother abusing their elderly mom. Stress affects people in different ways everyone has a tolerance level the younger brother turning to abusing his mother and the older brother killing his younger brother. In this case the mother loses. Sad all around especially when both probably wanted the best for their mom.
