39-year-old man arrested for beating 1-month-old son to death

Police said Wednesday they have arrested a 39-year-old man over the death of his 1-month-old baby son in Konosu, Saitama Prefecture.

According to police, the man, who has been named as Yuji Obaku, was investigated after his son Ryuto was taken to hospital and diagnosed with brain damage in early March, NTV reported. Staff at the hospital advised police that the boy's injuries may have been caused by violence.

Following a police investigation, Obaku was accused of seizing the infant by the head and slamming him into a futon mattress. Police say Obaku also shook the boy repeatedly.

Obaku and his 27-year-old wife already had two children before Ryuto, police said. It is currently unknown whether Obaku's other children also suffered from assault or mistreatment.

During police questioning, Obaku was quoted by police as saying: "I got angry because he wouldn't stop crying."

“I got angry because he wouldn’t stop crying.”

Why did I presume this would be his reply before reading the article.

What a stupid silly bastard!! RIP little baby!!

What an absolute monster. Hopefully this guy never sees the light of day outside of a prison cell.

@ TokyoGas "Why did I presume this would be his reply before reading the article."

Interesting point TokyoGas:

probably this behavior is also related to:

Münchausen syndrome by proxy (MSbP/MSP), which refers to the abuse of another person, typically a child, in order to seek attention or sympathy for the abuser.

RIP little one. What a horrible story. I hope this guy will be locked up for a long time!!

Saitama needs some serious improvements in social services.

RIP Ryuto.

You'd figure that after having 2 kids he would understand that crying is what babies do. I hope he cries when they lock him up in prison and his roommate smashes his head against the wall to stop him.

@bgaudry What you don't seem to understand is that it is not only Saitama ken that needs improving their social services. If you look at the statistics ( easy to research) Saitama is actually in the middle of the prefectures for crimes ,abuse etc. However its proximity to Tokyo , puts it under attention for news.

He can tweet all he wants. The only people following him and taking his tweets seriously are the right wingers... Sure that's 1 million right wingers, but that's also 1 million empty heads..

Is Saitama a place where the air is thin or something? I ask because random acts of violence seem to be reported by JT quite a lot. This one is particularly horrible... I mean how could someone do that to a baby? RIP little one.

i'm so confused...

Babies cry. If you can't stop crying as an adult because of that fact, don't have them. Hope this guy rots in prison. RIP to the little boy.

@jojon922 Feeling a little sleepy ? I believe you're on the wrong article !

@Thunderbird2

This one is particularly horrible... I mean how could someone do that to a baby?

Unfortunately, this has been happening so often it really makes one wonder if it will ever stop ? I believe the problem here is that, very often, the whole family sleeps in the same room. Probably father is tired from work, has to get up early to go back to the grindstone, etc... I am certainly NOT condoning his action, I'm just trying to explain what often seems to be the case.

If anyone thinks this monster deserves anything less then the death penalty I would be shocked... Oh death should be given in the same way he killed his baby, by slamming his head into the floor!!!

Yes, Saitama is in the news far to much with child abuse cases!

Gee the kid was only one month old so how much crying could he have done in that time to incite such stupidity

0 ( +1 / -1 )

He is Barbarian in simple words.

Strange details. The baby was diagnosed with brain damage in early March, but the father wasn't charged until the end of May?

“I got angry because he wouldn’t stop crying.”

Its a baby...they do that! If you can't handle it, then put a cork in it and stop having babies!

I am a zillions miles away from defending this father.

But being a father of three - and never ever having had shaken my babies - I must say that if I could have had a paid paternity leave I would have enjoyed much more this period of my life. Just dead tired for 6 months every time, and luckily with rather quiet children.

And unfortunately the shaken baby syndrome is a BIG worldwide issue.

RIP little boy!

Hope the father rots for this. PLICK !

"I got angry because he wouldn’t stop crying.”

i guess his two other children never cried.

Here in the US there isn't a day that goes by where you don't see a PSA on TV about shaken baby syndrome at least a half dozen times. If the baby is crying and you think you're going to lose it then lay they baby down in a safe place and step away to another room and get yourself together. If you think you're frustrated then think about how your child feels not able to get you to understand what is bothering him/her. Concern yourself more with the child and less about yourself and you might be suprised at how the crying starts to bother you less.

what a POS. These stories seem to occur every day.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

alimel1969 - true. I also think a big thing in the US that makes it easier to deal with is the size of the houses. You can put the baby down, walk away, and calm down for 10 minutes. In Japan, living in a one room box - there is no escape and people blow their fuse much more easily.

Please note that I am NOT saying that is an excuse though! This guy is a POS and deserves everything he gets. And its not as if he is even young and inexperienced - 39 and already a father of two FFS!

I hadn't thought about that, ChibaChick. Though I cringe to recommend it but I would rather the parent safely set the baby down in his bed and step outside the apartment and just sit outside the door if that prevents them from losing their temper. I hate seeing this kind of news but I hope people will start paying attention and figure out for themselves what not to do.

The criminal system just got angry, slam this loser with life in prison.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

“I got angry because he wouldn’t stop crying.”

Yeah moron, one month old babies do that. That is all they can do! No doubt this loser abuses his other two kids and his wife as well. Beating on a one month old baby must have made him feel like such a big man. Now, hopefully, he will learn about being a little man in prison. I dunno about Japanese jails, but I know where I come from child abusers and molesters do not fare well in prison.

Yuji was found beaten to death in his cell, the guard said "he wouldn't stop whining".

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Its always because people getting angry at crying kid..... on a flight, people will look in disguss when other kids cry. Similar sentiment. Clearly this guy needs to reflect in prison for a long time. RIP little one!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Yuji you suck. why would you do something to a precious little baby???

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Totals moron of the lowest degree. Baby shaking is a known killer of the innocent and vulnerable....

"A child's cry is part of the human music", my friend said to me. After that, I've come to find delight in hearing a child cry, even though I know we must find the cause, and comfort him or her without frustration. How is it my friend was so enlightened to say something like this, and others resort to violence? It is a mystery.

Man, only 6 actual comments before the "Saitama" cracks. Think about WHAT happened before WHERE it happend.

This man Should hang or get life. I dont care what stress he had, there is never a reson to abuse a child.

Japan's very safe, unless you at home with your family. Hiding bodies in closets, convincing family members to commit suicide. There are horrible family issues in Japan and NONE of it is addressed.
