4 arrested for confining woman after 90-minute car chase

Police in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, have arrested a man and three women on suspicion of confining a 19-year-old woman in a car for over 10 hours.

According to police, at around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, police received a call from a man saying that his brother had carted a woman off with his car, Fuji TV reported. Police spotted the car near the border with Saga Prefecture at around 3 a.m. and ordered the car to pull over. However, the car sped off.

After the car chase which lasted for 90 minutes and involved four police cars, police arrested the driver, Hiroto Saito, 21, and three of his female friends.

According to police, Saito and the three women had confined Saito's ex-girlfriend, 19, in the car since 6 p.m. on Tuesday. The victim sustained light injuries to her neck, police said.

Saito was quoted by police as saying the woman was not confined and that he just wanted to discuss their relationship break-up with her.

Big ups to Saito's brother for turning him in!

Thanks god the woman is safe ..

Ok, so, let's see. This guy wanted to talk to this woman about their relationship break-up. And, of course, he had THREE, count 'em, three FEMALE "friends" with him to help him do this. ?!?!?!?

Hmmmm..... I don't even know what to say... just too much screwed up about this.

Discuss a break-up?? Good grief, all he had to do was text her. What's wrong with these young kids?

More 'ijime' BS from a young Japanese punk! He probably still doesn't know why she wanted to break up with him.

Waistoid gimp. Confine him to a cell for over ten hours, with four people berating him. (Don't believe his story for a second).

See the positives people! They were chased for 90 minutes and nobody was heart!

It could have tragic consequences and he was putting their life in danger - hope he gets more than a slap on the wrists...

"confining a 19-year-old woman in a car for over 10 hours..."

I wonder what the Japanese translation of the word "confine" is? It sounds like the girl had one LUCKY ESCAPE!!!

You'd think with all the clicks this site gets, and the sponsors money, they'd invest in an 'edit' function.

I want to know what kind of "female friends" are this, who participated in this screwed-up scheme? I am glad his brother had enough common sense to call the cops.

監禁 or kankin -confinement against someone's will

Shouldn't this read "19 year old minor"? I'd think the penalty for kidnapping a legal minor would be stiffer than kidnapping a legal adult.

Jees, great to hear the police caught him and his friends. From the sound of it, angry ex-boyfriend with 3 other females confining an ex-girlfriend and driving her around to do something unspecified, I get the feeling that a horrific scenario may have been averted. The 3 other girls being there the entire time would lend weight to the fact that they were there to abuse her

I am concerned about her safety when the young man is no longer in custody. His behavior seemed beyond what a sane person would do.

@Mirai Hayashi - 監禁 or kankin -confinement against someone's will

I get it now... TEN HOURS of "brainwashing" and mind-control... :-)

The women would have held her while he strangled her. The 'light' injuries to her neck were a threat and a preview.

Ahhh... I think maybe she had good reason to dump Saito. He might be just a bit too possessive.

saying that his brother had carted a woman off with his car

This may be the first time I've seen the verb "cart off" used in a news article, except in a direct quotation. I need to lie down.

johninjapan, I think you need to lie down too.

@albaleo - "This may be the first time I've seen the verb "cart off" used in a news article..."

Yes, it does sound strange to native speakers but the dictionary definition means "to take something or someone somewhere, especially using a lot of effort" so if that's what the brother witnessed... ;-)

Saito was quoted by police as saying the woman was not confined and that he just wanted to discuss their relationship break-up with her.

By locking her up in a trunk and having a high speed chase with the cops?!

All comes down to his overly important pride and treating his X like a possession, glad she is safe and shame on the other 3 females.

Discuss a break-up?? Good grief, all he had to do was text her. What's wrong with these young kids?

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.

No. They were arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment.

Three female sidekicks WOW

this punk will learn while they sit in prison.

You can just say "lasted 90 minutes" not "lasted for 90 minutes."

I give this adult three months and the accomplices a month of confinement.

I would have had to do pee pee in my shorts well before I was released. Terrible story for that woman

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

this is close to home...i know the area pretty well...

Now, presumed facts by the one and only ME super cleverer than any else...

older brother v8 vip car (counter-intuitive for you,but because they ran out of gas so soon suggests older brother never fills up car, i.e. running on empty) police following firmly gas finally running out police waiting patiently for engine or driver to stop because of fuel... end of story

wait,

wonderful, supportive young male loved by his female peers ( a little too much by that one girl who jealously assaulted the ex...)

Also,

could be older brother said: if you love her and trully want her back, maybe do something about it...

@Hawkeye - Congratulations for spotting the obvious omission!! "Confinement" doesn't go anywhere near describing the HUMILIATING ORDEAL that this girl went through.

The "brainwashing" and "mind-control" entails NO FOOD, NO WATER... NO ANYTHING... until you agree to do whatever they say.

And guess what... when all is said and done... IT WORKS!!!
