I hope Indonesia treats them exactly as Japan treats those they've detained

I hope they were journalist raising awareness to the atrocities being committed by the Indonesian government against the indigenous peoples of that island. They are incarcerating, harming and killing them for the natural resources on their land like gold. It is the same as Australia.

investigative journalism is exactly a strong point with journalists in Japan... i bet they were out to make a quick few bucks off the backs of the locals.. let's hope they get the same infamous treatment that is dished out in Japanese immigration detention centres.

Yes, and they were assume them guilty from the moment they were arrested.
In fact if any Japanese national is arrested overseas, the plaintiff should file court procedures in Japan, to get money from their families. Bail / bond should not be considered for Japanese crim's.

The article is short on background information. Why didn't they do things by the book, and get work permits, or comply with whatever regulations required under local laws?
