Ibaraki Prefectural Police have arrested four men on suspicion of stealing 21.15 million yen from houses in five prefectures.

According to police reports, Masato Aoyagi, 55, a company employee from Ibaraki Prefecture, and three male accomplices targeted the homes of elderly residents from June 2020 to April this year, when the residents were not at home, Sankei Shimbun reported. The gang got into the houses by prying open windows with screwdrivers and stole cash and precious metals.

The thefts occurred in Ibaraki, Tochigi, Saitama, Chiba and Hyogo prefectures.

In May, Aoyagi and a male accomplice were arrested for breaking and entering into a home in Yuki City, Ibaraki Prefecture. The Mito District Public Prosecutor’s Office later indicted four male members for the strings of burglaries.

I put mine in a big hole on a mountain next to a big tree-perfect!

Also, this article seems to suggest that it was a gang of Japanese people doing the thieving.

I’ve heard reports that in most cases the police will blame it on another nationality from a large country in Asia

Never put all your eggs in one basket, eh? So where do you reckon old people should keep their valuables, Sven?

As if your BTC, ETH, XRP &co. wallets wouldn’t be sometimes robbed too, on average, in ‘hacker activities waves’ time span. Nothing money-like is 100% safe, not the cash at home, not the virtual money and bonus points, not those coins, that btw isn’t even legal money right from the start, so you’re already ripped off your real money beforehand and gray zone half officially lol, and it’s all not safe here in Japan, and not anywhere else.

It's Year 2021, the Japanese are still keeping cash at home? UFJ, Mizuho, SMBC etc should educate the public. Not just silly commercials with famous personalities

Top tip for oldies and anyone else...... Probably a lot safer to keep your money in a bank. I know interest rates are poor but less likely to get stolen.
