Mori get arrested yet?

13 ( +18 / -5 )

There is one more Y. Mori who needs to be arrested.

8 ( +14 / -6 )

Not to be too sarcastic but IOC officials are probably looking at a possible Sapporo Winter Olympics as a way to Line their pockets…human nature

5 ( +8 / -3 )

When are they going to arrest that scoundrel Bach….

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Uhm, wait. Japan won the bid for the Summer Olympics in late 2013, Koike-san was elected mayor of tokyo in 2016.

I didn't say she was involved in the bid. My point was that the Olympics (in this case the Tokyo games) are rotten to the core and a few people getting caught like this is just the inevitable tip of the tip of the iceberg.

@yotomaya…

This all happened on her watch. She was the one who went through with the Olympics against the will of the majority of people in Tokyo during the largest Covid surge to that date. The bid itself was based on lies about the "ideal weather" in summer and islamophobia against Tokyo's competitor, Istanbul.

If she, or anyone involved, regrets anything, it's someone getting caught. But being in politics, everyone must have known this was inevitable.

Partly agree with you but she alone couldn’t cancel the Olympics. The Government led by LDP ( PM Suga at that stage and Late Abe ) had the power to lock down the country and easily cancel the Olympics. But they didn’t have the courage to stand up to IOC President Bash who openly said in news briefing that only IOC can cancel the Olympics and the people of Japans opinion doesn’t matter as they don’t have the power to cancel it. Those were the very words used by IOC President Bash ( Japanese people’s opinion doesn’t matter and they have no power ) in live television! PM Suga was weak at that moment and this was his downfall. He should have stood up to IOC President Bash and said No Bash… The Japanese people’s opinion matters and therefore the Government will cancel Olympics! Either way, when future generations study about pandemics they’ll laugh at the idiots who went ahead with Olympics during the unknown period of the pandemic! It was the worst Olympics ever with so many mistakes and lack of proper organizational skills. It was just a pocket filling ( with cash and gifts disguised as souvenirs) and party for the IOC executives and Tokyo Olympics committee officials who stayed, ate and drank while partying at Ritz Calton hotel all on the taxpayers money!

Now that we know enough about Covid it’s ok to do events but those days everything was unknown so the actions of the people in-charge was reckless and dangerous!

It is not only Japan when it comes to corruption surrounding the Olympics it is never ending story every time these games come around.

It would be nice if it is the Olympic committee that has to beg countries to be the host and not the other way around and just maybe there will be less corruption and the key word is less.

@Yubaru

these executives and more importantly the companies they represented and worked for, should be given at a minimum, a 10 year ban, on bidding or being associated with any international events, including sports events, as punishment.

I don't often agree with you but in this case I am in total agreement.

Is pretty surprising that these Tokyo prosecutors are going after them like sharks after blood. They had to have the backing and cooperation of the government to be willing to go after so many of them. Because usually there would be a lot of red tapes and obstacles that prevent these investigations from going too far. This is getting pretty interesting. Whoever is backing all of this, must have really hated the olympic event and wanted to make a example out of them. By the time this is all finish and done, Sapporo city can forget about hosting the next winter olympic.

The Olympic trough is long and deep!

And the PTB want another Olympics here?

More gorging ahead…?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

When you say "Mori" you practically say Japan the name is synonymous with every business deal from construction to real estate in Japan. Seeing his name on the list does not surprise me. He will get a slap on the wrist but the low hanging fruit will see some time.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Suspended sentence and have their salary reduce by 30% for 3 months. Stop wasting time, rich and famous people don't go-to jail in Japan.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Hard to believe these thugs believe they could get away with this. This scandal may even lead to the IOC no longer wishing to hold the games in Japan in the future.

Bach never met a despotic regime he never liked so no worries there

Someone or people needs to be chucked in jail as a nation disgrace and make it public, so thst everyone knows. has any tax's not been paid on these financial gains? a bit more jail time one thinks

Greed conquers all

2 ( +2 / -0 )

They got the wrong Mori!

2 ( +3 / -1 )

When are they going to arrest that scoundrel Bach….

scoundrel Bach? You're being too nice.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

If 'found' guilty, they'll probably receive 10-20% deductions in salaries for 3 months, have to make a public 45-60 degree bow, and get a suspended sentence.

Won't expect anything tougher than that!

1 ( +14 / -13 )

Just say sumimasen and all will be forgiven.

What a friggin joke.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Tokyo prosecutors arrested the former executive, Yasuo Mori, on suspicion he played a leading role in rigging bids for contracts related to games test events in violation of the anti-monopoly law.

One more Mori please!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

More and more people being arrested. If they run out of detention cells, maybe they could convert the Olympic Village to a detention center for corrupt executives?

0 ( +14 / -14 )

What a shameful and HUGE embarrassment for Tokyo, Japan Inc and the Japanese at large.

0 ( +13 / -13 )

A deep bow or two and it will all be fixed, that's the way corruption is handled in Japan.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

The contract for the Olympics was agreed and signed between Tokyo Gov/JOC and the IOC, not the Japanese Government. The latter were limited to what they could do, but contributed a lot towards the costs. All the contracts, amendments and conditions were freely visible on the Tokyo Olympics website.

Tokyo Gov Yuriko Koike said the arrest of Mori was "extremely regrettable."

When these court cases are finalized, and if and when they are found guilty, which should include the charges of "breaking the public trust", these executives and more importantly the companies they represented and worked for, should be given at a minimum, a 10 year ban, on bidding or being associated with any international events, including sports events, as punishment.

There is no way others within their companies were unaware of what was going on and anyone who thinks they acted on their own, are naïve children.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

And what will all these achieve?

Nothing. Just busy work for Japan prosecutors as they prepare their presentation for the yearly performance evaluation.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

they have catched small fish.real bosses with contacts with top LDP crooks are untouchable as same as moonies.

expect some bowing performance comedy and some symbolic suspended sentences.TIJ/this is japan/

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

Mr Bach will be furious about these Gideon blackening the name of the Olympics. If convicted they should serve long punishments as a deterrent to others.

Hard to believe these thugs believe they could get away with this. This scandal may even lead to the IOC no longer wishing to hold the games in Japan in the future.
