Four small restaurants were robbed within a two-hour period Sunday morning in Kitamoto, Saitama Prefecture.

Police said the four establishments were all closed at the time and were all within a two-kilometer stretch of road along National Route No. 17, TBS reported. The robberies occurred between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m.

The establishments were ramen restaurants and bars in old buildings, police said. In all four cases, the thief or thieves entered by smashing a window or forcing a back door.

Police said the total amount of money reported stolen was only 5,000 yen.

Robbery is the crime of taking or attempting to take anything of value by force or threat of force or by putting the victim in fear.

These seem to have been burglaries, not robberies. robbery involves a person/victim being present.

5,000 yen plus a packet of noodles?

If caught they will get ten years for only 5,000 yen. That's if they are lucky because they could be charged for each count of robbery which would make it 30 years.

Where'd this happen again? :)

Seriously, though... 5000 yen? Pretty crappy 'thieves', or else they just wanted the attention or possibly to be caught (in which case they'll turn themselves in later).

Japan not as safe as some would have you believe. Between news like these and people stabbing each other, never let your guard down anywhere.

The take probably wasn't enough to offset the cost of planning these heists.

Indeed, judging by the context of this news piece, it is but petty crime, nobody was killed or injured. I conclude that those involved are in their late teens. Most probably fall under the NIEET category.

Boredome nos no bounds, these were but teens having a laugh. Little did they know that such actions are taken seriously. 10 years a long time for such petty crimes. Its not too late, I would suggest that they turn themselves in and hope to have the sentence shortened.

Fiction is full of sophisticated criminals using intricate means to carry off their glamorous crimes. And then you have reality.
