WTF! I am so outraged by this, I really can't think what would be a just punishment. But the quote from the old testament comes to mind, "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth". Lets see this inhumane monster loose the sight in one of his eyes and see how he feels!

This is probably the lowest of the low. There are plenty of women in Japan who are probably just as desperate as the boy's mother that would take a looser like him. I say that the mother is a looser because there is no way that she didn't notice that this guy didn't like her son, and probably mistreated him well before he started giving him the drops.

I can comprehend the act of striking a kid in a momentary fit of rage, even though I would never condone it. What I can't understand is this slow cruelty and callousness to a 4-year-old over time. The man has no conscience or sense of humanity whatsoever. How do such sick creatures come about?

But in relation to the dark cake, to have the right affect this would also have to be done slowly, in a helpless state, an ironic expectation of getting better, a sense of the cause yet low ability to communicate or be persuasive, a mental state of innocence (undeserving of the attack), simultaneous pressure of needing to be active and in top condition to get oriented and established in life, and done at the hands of a loved one and caretaker. Difficult if not impossible to replicate, not to mention the probable psychological affects incurred as blowback to the one administering the revenge. Consequently, I would set that dark cake aside and take up the white cake of running the bad guy through the justice system, waiting for the final touches of justice in the next life and productively focusing on other things in the mean time. May the child heal well, physically, psychologically and emotionally.

A few years ago it was putting them on the porch...then came the washing machine... this guy takes the sick **** gold medal. A jury in the US would do 20 on this guy easy. And then when he got to the can he would be beat daily on his cell block.

The interview with the neighbours that was shown on TV last night described how they would hear the boy screaming every night. Not normal crying, but screaming and yelling that it hurts etc. This went on from April to December; i dont have children but i cannot imagine any sane mother continuing to put eyedrops into my son's eyes if he complains like that. I smell something fishy with that!

A couple of comments to support the mother. The battery acid was 'added' to the drops, suggesting it was diluted, and may not have given rise to much pain on application, or not more than the usual brief 'sting' from putting in some drops. The poor mother probably had no idea it was the dilute acid, and not the underlying eye disease (inflammation) that was causing the problem. The symptoms would be identical. She would not be likely to question her physician who prescribed the drops, and just accept that the drops would eventually cure the problem.

From experience, most prescribed medicines have a "use period". I found this in the Santen website for eye drops:

Basic translation: "For safety purposes, regular eyedrops should be used for a maximum of 3 months, and medical eyedrops for 1 month"

I am sick to my stomach on reading this. Exactly how can someone hate a child? This man is not a man, he's an animal. I am normally against the death penalty but I think that in the case where someone willfully, deliberately does action to harm or kill a child, then I say spare nothing to punish this person.

As for the mother,I have to agree with some of the comments that she probably wouldn't have notice the problem. The acid was diluted and the child was being actively treated for a an eye condition. "his eye is not improving, continue medication" would have been the advice of the doctor probably. Poor mother. Poor child. But for the man? Nothing but contempt.

To clarify:

This is to avoid bacterial contamination of the actual eye drops from regular or intermittent application, though they usually contain a mild bactericide to reduce the chances of contamination.

It is not a reflection of the required treatment period to take care of a medical problem.

Not blaming the woman, but I'd like to know if she had any inkling at all. Did she sense at all that he didn't like the kid, and hope things would get better, or was he a great actor.

I know so many nice guys who aren't kakkoii, aren't good at talking, not confident, and can't get a girlfriend. But they're decent. But there always seem to be absolute scumbag, low-life, don't deserve to live cretins who always seem to be able to get a girl. And women like to think they have some kind of superior intuition, and can judge people better than men.

Someone needs to shoot the truck driver, the mother needs some minders to make sure she picks the right guy next time, and the boy i hope gets a free life pass to Disneyland or whatever to bring back a smile to his face. There aren't words to describe the anger and disgust I am feeling now. That poor boy. Evil. Pure evil to do that to a little child...to do it to anyone. On the surface, it sounds as if the mother might have genuinely had no idea what her 'boyfriend' was doing. I mean, no-one would ever think that someone would do such a terrible thing. Sometimes, through no fault of their own making, parents find themselves bringing up kids singlehandedly. All precautions should be taken before letting a 'boyfriend' or 'girlfriend' into you life and ultimately near your child(ren). This 'man' is already married. I wonder does he have children? The article doesn't say but I think someone who can commit such a premeditated callous and cruel act isn't a posterboy for a nurturing,balanced parent.

I sincerely hope the little boy gets all the support, nurturing and care to help him overcome this tragedy. If it is determined that the mother wasn't involved and/or didn't know about the abuse, I hope she takes care with who she let's near her son. Children are the most precious things we are given.

But this is Japan and he won't get a prison sentence, and even if he did, no one will beat him or rape him in prison. That just doesn't happen in Japan. He will get, at worst, a long suspended sentence, probably 5 years suspended.

According to my husband the children are third class citizens in Japan, therefore they are considered "property" under Japanese law.The child in question didn't die. The perpetrator beast won't go to jail. That's how it works here.

He will bow and apologize and he will get nothing but a slap on the wrist and get away scot-free. Most savage crimes against children go unpunished in this country. Sad but true reality. The prehistoric government and cold society are the only ones to blame for this.

Bloody sick! If you can't stand the kid but love your partner, do your best to work things out in a manner that doesn't involve abuse (of either or). Now this boy is in protective custody. So there must be more going on than we know about. After reading "originalusername" post, I have to wonder how competent this mother is. From April to December this kid was screaming every night. If my son was complaining about his eye medicine I would get him a new medicine. I would definitely research the problem more deeply and quickly than this mother. That being said, never in a million years would I have guessed that someone was putting acid into his eyedrops. I am glad she finally got to the bottom of the problem. I hope her son recovers and gets the love and attention all children deserve.

What's with everyone attacking the boys mother though? From this article we don't know just how much of the blame she should take. Yes she let this man into the boys life but we don't know if he showed his hatred in front of the mother. The article also doesn't tell us when he put the acid into the eye drops. She could of been using that bottle before he put anything in them. It would of looked suspicious to her if a bottle she hadn't used was already opened.

The child had to have been in great pain every-time the Mom put the drops in (Neighbors hearing the screams of pain). I being a parent like all others would have questioned the medicine knowing from when are children are babies the difference between I don't like it, to agony in their cries and checked it. Very odd and I hope the investigators find the whole truth and also put away this monster who caused so much pain to a child.

So, if I understand the article well, a married man committed adultery, it is unclear whether with a married or divorced woman, who had a child, and as he didn't need eyewitness or a little child constituting a barrier to his sexual life he decided to reduce another human to blind, human wreck in order to go on undisturbed with his sex.

Asa always I am against prison punishment, instead I would snuggest something useful, that nobody would listen or consider, of course.

The man should receive a multiple, deep microchip implant and assigned to any heavy industrial park to work where there is labour shortage, e.g. paint shop, live there in cheap austere dormitory, work and eat isolated in order to prevent harm to others to the end of his life without retiring at old age for normal or high salary that are payed for dangerous jobs.

All the money he earns, after a minimal deduction for the cheap dormitory, and minimum personal expenses for food and clothing, should go as an allowance for the handicapped boy (not to her mother) till the man is capable of working and earning money.

This definetely falls under the heading of "cruel and unusual"....the man is a monster and not fit to be in society. A very callous way to treat a child, understanding the effect it would have on the boy and urging the process to continue. Lock him up for sure.

How often was the boy complaining about his eye? The boy had an existing eye condition during that time. In my opinion, the mother must have known the poor boy was acking from pain!!
