Police in Kamagaya, Chiba Prefecture, have arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of killing a woman in her 50s with whom he lived.

According to police, Tomokazu Sakurai, who works for a wrecking company, is accused of stabbing the woman in the stomach at around 8 p.m. Saturday at their municipal apartment, Kyodo News reported.

Ten minutes later, Sakurai called 110 and said he had stabbed the woman. The victim was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said Sakurai has so far given no motive for stabbing the woman.

Do these people have knives lying around the house or nearby when socializing with friends and family?

If they had a home and you had cutlery in their home, where whould they be? That's where they go to get them. Simple common sense, these people.

Your point is well taken.

So, the person who does the stabbing with the knife will actually walk to the kitchen area and grab a knife out of the drawer, walk or run back to where the argument was first started and then begin the stabbing while the victim just waits for it to come?

The victim does not run away or lock themselves in another room to protect themselves seeing that there is a knife in the hand of the violent friend or family member?

I never thought of that. Thanks.

Sorry, I missed the part in the story where it says the murder was NOT committed in the kitchen, where a knife could have been easily just lying on a countertop within arm's reach in the moment of anger in which he stabbed her.

I did not miss the part where it describes their shared apartment as "municipal", ie; subsidized city apartments. Meaning it was likely 2 or 3 small and cramped rooms with not much space to run to and likely divided by unlockable sliding doors that are easily kicked down.

At any rate, the coward admitted to killing her so that pretty much ends the sad story for both of them. All speculation, including my own above, is useless to her and of no help to him.

Most dangerous place in Japan seems to be the house.

Knives are to here what guns are to there. If ever there was a time for AC Japan to be proactive this is it. Pointed warnings about the need to keep sharp objects well and truly out of the reach of the many people out there who nurse grievances and are on a hair trigger.

Be sure to get the truth. Terrible..

@Michael Machida Keep your day job!!! Your logic kills me!!! Hilarious!! Who's to say the argument did or didn't start in the kitchen its all speculative!!!
