Just thinking out loud.....

Leaked or Sold?

I use cash only.

It’s amazing that Japanese companies still don’t get prosecuted to the maximum extent of the law.

Prosecuted for what? The stupidity of customers that think reusing the same password and email combination everywhere is a good idea?

if you choose to have the same lock on every door and then your key is stolen, do you blame the locksmith? People need to start being more security minded as this kind of attack is becoming more and more commonplace.

"Leaked".

The data is leaked, LEAKED! That is not due to customers choosing "123456" as password, but due to Uniqlo having garbage security. Even the passwords from a password manager does not matter, since the stolen data was from Uniqlo's servers, where the fault lies.

Actually, we don't know if this was the result of weak passwords or not. If an admin was sharing their username/password combination on other sites, or using a simple password like password, their account could have been hacked, providing access to the given details. Allowing weak passwords for administrators is garbage security however, so you were correct with that.

Even the passwords from a password manager does not matter

Actually it does - you can have separate, complex passwords for every site. That way you have complex passwords (without having to remember them), and if one site gets hacked they can't use your info to get into another site.

Leaked just means information has been unwillingly disclosed. The story is quite clear that this was caused by issues with other sites and the credentials have also been valid in the UNIQLO services. The problem is users not keeping separate login details.

Security leak, apologize, leak, apologize, leak, apologize, leak, apologize..... round and round, endlessly.

Wake up and smell the coffee. This is the way our new economy works, like a steam locomotive. Leaky seals, blowing off steam. Not news any more.

sold for sure!!!

All people should be using a password manager

They can be hacked with malware. Virus can turn on your mic and camera. Intel chips (hardware) are also being hacked.

If "leaked through unauthorized access."

Then who knows the rival of Uniqlo and GU brands brought those information from the so called hacker!!!
