Police in Niigata City have arrested a 48-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he stabbed two upstairs neighbors.

According to police, the incident occurred at an apartment building in Chuo Ward at around 10 p.m. on Tuesday. Fuji TV reported that the suspect, Osamu Daichi, attacked the two victims, a 52-year-old man and 61-year-old man, in front of the apartment’s shared bathroom on the second floor. The two men suffered multiple stab wounds to their stomach and back, but their injuries are not life-threatening, police said.

Police said Daichi, who has admitted to the charge, used a fruit knife to stab the 52-year-old man first and when the second man heard the commotion and came out into the corridor, he, too was stabbed. Daichi then left to the building and went to a nearby shop from where he called the police.

Police said a noise dispute apparently led to the incident.

"Get to know your neighbors people! You never know what sort of whacko is living next to you." Nor do your neighbors...

In other countries, you can call the police who will visit the noise makers and give them a warning for disturbing the peace. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do in Japan but contact the building fudousan.

I once saw a man in Osaka tear through a balcony divider, shake his neighbor violently and threaten his life after a long spat of blatant disregard. Good on him for having balls!

I absolutely hate people with no consideration for others‥…… Too bad this old guy was pushed too far‥……

Noise is seriously bad for your mental health. Let's quieten things down, Japan.

I wonder if alcohol was involved.

I wonder is the stabber was overly sensitive to noise (which is often the case in Japan), or if the guys were really too loud. Me personally, I sleep with a fan. The noise of the fan drowns out normal apartment sounds.

There is more than one way to interpret that statement.

Get to know your neighbors people! You never know what sort of whacko is living next to you. I often ask my students if they know their neighbors and 99% will answer, no! I know my neighbors. It's a 2DK Filipino commune with six adults and two little kids living in there. And yes, they are extremely noisy! '>_<"

First thought to my mind is the upstairs neighbor practices river dance.

As this place had a shared bathroom im guessing it one of these wooden shed houses made just from board and beams with no insulation etc. Too much sorchu and pride with little communication is a receipt for disaster.
