Police in Tokyo have arrested five members of a crime syndicate on suspicion of physically assaulting a male street scout in the Kabukicho district of Shinjuku Ward.
Ryoji Hirai, 46, a senior member of the Sumiyoshi-kai affiliate Kohei-ikka, and four other yakuza members, including Ryosuke Hayashi, 27, were arrested over an incident that occurred in June, Sankei Shimbun reported. Police said that on the night of June 5, the five suspects dragged a 23-year-old man, who was working as an adult establishment street scout, out of his car as he parked it. In addition to punching and kicking the victim, the gang threatened to stab him in the eye with an ice pick if they saw him again in Shinjuku Ward.
The day before the assault, Hirai and his fellow Kohei-ikka members were involved in a fight with a street scout organization in Kabukicho. Officers arrested members from both the crime syndicate and the scout recruiting group.
However, police said yakuza affiliates have begun “scout hunting” and targeting the men who are employed by the scouting organization. Police have so far arrested a total 15 people in connection with violence between the two groups.

It took them six months to arrest someone?

Sounds like they were trying to do everyone a favour. Those scouts are real scum. I cant count the number of times I have seen young women being harassed by them.

The headline gave away. Kabukicho of course.

I 100% agree!

Why exactly are is the yakuza "scout hunting"?

Speed, it was in the news a while ago, the scouts syndicate bosses (two brothers if I remember correctly) started a turf battle with yakuza. As long as it doesn't spill into the general public, let them beat each other to death
Goodlucktoyou
The yaks should buy out the scout group bosses, gaining a monopoly and then hire the street level scouts on 60% less commission.
its how capitalism works. If the scouts don’t like it, they can get a job on a building site...but that would require doing real mans work.

General Question:
As we know Japan overall is a safe country. But even in safe countries, there can be areas that are less safe. Is it a safe assumption that Kabukicho is one of the less safe areas in Japan or the least safe area in Japan (actually been to Kabukicho during the day and did not seem threatening)?
Also curious which is the safest Prefecture and/or City in Japan all the way from Wakkanai, Hokkaido, Japan to Naha, Okinawa, Japan.

Let them knock the stuffing out of each other. Both a blight on society.
Ego Sum Lux Mundi
Given that both parties often ensnare desperate and gullible young women into a life of misery and regret, I'm hoping they cancel each other out.

Let's not overestimate the yaks.
Sounds like they're headhunting scouts, the lowlives who coerce vulnerable women into the sex industry.

I think a lot of you are a bit naive thinking that only the scouts lure/provide women with sex work. That's one of mainstays of the yakuza.
