5 years is not long even though she was also a victim of his partner, who should be condemned at least 30 years..

Hmmm why not gallows??..

Honestly I wouldnt bother if they give lifetime to the childless obese Emiko Akahori, swindling someone is one thing, but just how vile you have to be to brainwash a human being into starving its own child for your own gain.

10 to 15 that's more than enough I guess.... But 5 years seems like a vacation

In jail, my bet is she is going crazy with thoughts of what she did. Never take advice from people whose only mission is to harm you and your family. There are a lot of people like this. For reasons of jealousy or just want to harm people for unknown reasons.

5 years? That's it? 5?! Shows how much the Japanese justice system values their little ones.

what is wrong with local "justice"?

I really think upholding 25 more years would be a better idea. What she did to her kid was so cruel.

What she did was murder. She should get life in prison.

Some friend! WTH is wrong with that murderous mother anyway?!

Evil, despicable woman. Not fit to be called Mother. The suffering the poor boy went through is unthinkable.

Rest in Peace Shojiro kun.

she had filed the appeal "in the slim hope" that she could rejoin her other children sooner.

Scary to think this deadbeat female could ever gain access to other children. The govt should ban her from any contact with the children.

Only 5 years?

Well I know where I will move if I ever decide to do something that sick

Speechless time won't heal the loss of her son nor will time spent in jail be enough!

way way way too lenient for the 2 of them. They starved a 5 yr old to death!! Makes my blood boil.

It never ceases to amaze me about just how extreme this species can be. It's like this incident comes from the mind of a horror novel/ movie writer. Just goes to show that what ever devious, psychotic, demented individual that we could ever conjure up in our imaginations, there would actually be such a person living among us. Makes it hard to call oneself human.

She was under mind control? She truly had no motherly instincts then if she was more concerned with punishment and control than love and protection. Her remaining children would likely be better with a more stable person. So sad

Ikari told the high court she had filed the appeal "in the slim hope" that she could rejoin her other children sooner.

This woman should never be allowed to be near to children - including her own ones after her release.

Strange justice indeed, I see no reason why one woman got 15 years and the other only 5 years.

To claim mind control is no justification or excuse to allow your own child die of hunger.

In western liberal societies convicted women, even for most serious crimes today, are often given a virtual "pass" with far lighter sentences than a poor man would receive. Clearly Japan's judiciary is fast catching up
