51-year-old man arrested over murder of wife, mother-in-law

WOW Sad! One thing we don't know is WHY? Unemployed could be the main reason but still why?

Most likely since he lost his job his wife and mother in law think he had lost his usefulness as the provider so had been calling him useless and not worthy of being called a man and other degrading names which seems to be the Japanese way. So basically he was being abused and someone being abused can only handle it for so long.

As long as I live, I will never understand this. And I guess it is not meant to be understood by normal people. I have written this before here on JapanToday, if you feel you want to kills someone, buy a one way ticket to Hawaii and live on the beach. No need to kill anyone.

As you read my comments, please keep in mind that I do not condone abuse of any kind; however, I am a huge fan of the presumption of innocence.

So this guy is into girls of that age and can't keep his fists to himself.

Hotels should at least be able to ask for ID's for people of questionable age and appearance before allowing them to check in.

Tragic. It takes a lot of nerve and power to strangle someone to death. Glad the son was able to escape.

Mental health problems are rampant in this country.

Why the change of heart, P Smith?

He obviously was trying to kill himself as well, but why did he try to take it out on his family? He'll have plenty of time to think about that in the can.

I don't see a change in heart between his last comment and this comment. I do see a difference in circumstance one is accused and the other is caught red handed.

I don't believe that the two crimes are even close to being similar this one is where the victim escaped and immediately called the police.

Where as the other one you are talking about was reported some time after the fact.

sexually assaulting a teenage girl in a hotel last month.

This is certainly not red handed / in the act

However on my last comment I neglected to say that the father could be covering for his son ...

I don't see a change in heart between his last comment and this comment. I do see a difference in circumstance one is accused and the other is caught red handed.

The circumstances are identical, because in that other case the man was also caught red-handed, so to speak.

The point being that people quite often have a different set of standards of guilt when they read a story about sexual assault. Arson, murder, robbery - those arrests engender condemnation of the perpetrator and an assumption that an arrest indicates guilt.

But when the subject is sexual assault, the same kind of evidence - an arrest - is treated as if it is only circumstantial, and that a court verdict is needed before anyone should even have an opinion.

Obviously double standards abound, and this is not the first or last time we will see this.
