Police in Anjo, Aichi Prefecture, have arrested a 52-year-old man on suspicion of killing his cousin by beating him with a metal bat while he was asleep at around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday.

According to police, the suspect, Katayuki Sakaguchi, entered the Anjo police station on Wednesday afternoon and confessed to killing his cousin with a metal bat, Sports Nippon reported. Police found Sakaguchi's cousin, a man in his 40s, dead in an apartment that the two men shared in Toyota.

Police said the victim had been struck from behind as he slept.

Sakaguchi was quoted by police as saying, "Since last December, I have lived with my cousin who was sick and looked after him, but there was trouble between us and I couldn't stand it anymore."

At least he confessed, otherwise they may have marked it 'self-inflicted'.
