Police in Tokyo have arrested a 52-year-old woman on suspicion of killing her 81-year-old mother by stabbing her multiple times with a knife.
Police said the woman, whose name had not been released, has admitted to killing her mother at their home in Kita Ward on Monday morning, Sankei Shimbun reported. Police said the victim had knife wounds in the back of her head, back and upper body.
Police were alerted by a neighbor on Monday. When they arrived at the apartment, they found the mother covered in blood, lying on a futon. The suspect was present, with a bloodied kitchen knife.
According to reports from Akabane Police Station, the suspect lived alone with her mother and was an outpatient receiving treatment for schizophrenia at a hospital.

Today’s story of trending INTRA_FAMILY VIOLENCE AND UNTREATED MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES IN JAPAN:

I have always posted and said mental health issues is something no one wants to talk about and is looked away from but is a problem with everyone in today's society. May the mother finally rest in peace and perhaps the daughter get the real attention that she needs.

Disagree @Danielsan 5am. Treating the murder of her mother solely as a “crime” could possibly absolve the hospital who ‘treated [?] her schizophrenia’ as an “outpatient” issue. They could also be liable for the mother’s death if deemed negligient. (Weren’t there similar crimes last 2 weeks of a woman released then killing her mother after her son?)

Seeing a lot of this recently-without parents we would not be here. You are supposed to listen to and respect them, not bludgeon them to death to get your inheritance earlier than you’re supposed to..

The hospital/doctor responsible for releasing a woman as an outpatient for schizophrenia should have some serious 'splaining to do.
Starting with, why did you release this person, knowing she would also be a caregiver?!
I think they can all concur that the dosage of the meds they gave her, was not sufficient.
RIP elderly mother, you didn't deserve that kind of end.

"That is terrible. The repeated stabbing suggests incredible repressed anger and resentment."
OK internet psychologist.

As to the crime reported, mental health problems should not be considered as a defense of a crime of this nature. The perpetrator was under treatment, and apparently those who cared for her did not consider her a danger, if they had then she would have been institutionalized. This kind of crime calls for nothing less than the death penalty.
