Police said Friday they have arrested a 55-year-old woman in connection with the murder of her mother in Fukuchi, Fukuoka Prefecture.

According to police, 78-year-old Kyoko Sera was hit on the head with a vase at her home before being taken to her car and burned alive at around 5 p.m. on Feb 5. TBS quoted police as saying that during questioning, the victim's daughter, 55-year-old Mayumi Fujimura, gave an incomplete account of her whereabouts at the time of the incident. Investigators also noted that the victim's daughter had scratches on her hands.

Police say a search of her property was carried out as a result. Following the search, Fujimura attempted suicide on Wednesday and was taken to hospital for treatment. Doctors say her condition is not life-threatening.

According to police, Fujimura later confessed to the murder, telling investigators, "I had an argument with my mother. I wanted her to die, so I set fire to her."

Burning to death??! That is serious sh*t. The most painful way for a person to die, according to many accounts. Someone who willfully does this is a monster.

Man oh Man I hope she was knocked out when she died. Getting burned to death is horrible enough, getting burned to death knowing it's done to you by your own fricking daughter is enough send you into insanity and death at the same time.

Is it just me or does it seem that Fukuoka has a violent crime problem lately?

"I wanted her to die, so I set fire to her." Nice display of emotional stability, not!

The news articles of in-family murders and sadistic child abuse just keep on coming. Yeah, it happens all over the world, but the callousness and regularity of incidents in Japan are unique. When you combine these stats with the suicide rate and the loons running around randomly slashing people Japan is not such a 'safe' place after all. It may be safe for outsiders, but it seems you are more likely to be killed by a family member than by a stranger.

This is the year of family-cide.

She'll get a relatively light sentence. Crime "all in the family".

Japan: land of matricide. I really want to know what these Japanese mothers are doing to their kids to make them so pissed off. It's truly unbelievable the number of similar cases.

Matricide, patricide, infanticide, suicide ......almost as many 'cides' as on a pair of dice !

Both in Japan and America, children are caring for their aged parents. The sad part is for many, they do not have the skills required to do the job. A lot of factors come into play taking care of elderly parents or even just living with one. I will guess, for some past bad memories that are bottled up inside for years and than some abuse comes into the picture. In both countries prevention help and education should be increased, physical help as well as mental help coping with the living arrangement. Children abandoning elderly parents because they don't want to deal with them, is that much different than a young parent abandoning a child?

At first I thought "Alzheimer's-related stress", but if the mother still had a car then probably not a dementia issue.

Sadness runs deep with all the ills of a society that produces such tragedies.

better to live alone, older or young ... living alone is more safe!
