A 55-year-old woman was arrested on Sunday for strangling her 80-year-old mother at their home in Mitaka, Tokyo. Junko Ise, 55, was arrested for allegedly strangling her mother Akiko Umehara, 80, with a towel at her house around 5 a.m. on Sunday. Ise confessed to her husband, 61, that she had strangled the victim and called police. The victim was taken to hospital but confirmed dead on arrival.

The suspect told police she has been taking care of the victim who suffered from dementia and become stressed out. She was quoted by police as saying, “It is impossible for me to take care of her forever because she will never get better. I thought it would be bad for my husband, too.”

As financial conditions worsen, and pleasures become few and far between, we can expect more and more baggage to be dumped in such manner.

is she serious??????? i mean gang warfare is one thing but damn, killing your own mother because you dont want to take care of her is just as selfish as one can get and wasnt a similar story on here recently? i hope she plays fair and strangle herself a few years down the line when she find herself in the same position.

At 55 she probably already is.

Not that I condone it at all, for I do not (!!) but I can see how you could go crazy taking care of someone with dementia. My grandmother used to hide knives in her underwear drawer, and do things like push my mother down the stairs. My MIL, who I now take care of (with a couple of home helpers coming twice a week) can be extremely belligerent, nasty and violent. Too many women with dementia get really nasty mouths on them, constantly insulting and berating their caregivers above and beyond the usual accusations of theft.

What I want to get across is that it's not simply that she 'doesn't want to take care of her'.

Yahoo has a detailed discussion about how todays Japanese self absorption and selfishness is leading to all these killings... I couldn't agree more !

Walk a mile in her shoes before you judge.

Thats one way to end a problem. How about a one way ticket to the end of the line on the Shinkanzen, just make sure she has no money for the return trip and while she is gone quickly move house. That would have been better, well...would it.

"It is impossible for me to take care of her forever because she will never get better."
