6-year jail term sought for man who cut off love rival's penis

Prosecutors in Tokyo have sought a six-year prison term for a 25-year-old man who cut off the penis of a lawyer whom he accused of having an affair with his wife.

The court heard that the defendant, Ikki Kotsugai, 25, a Keio University law student and former boxer, acted out of revenge over his wife’s romantic involvement with the 42-year-old victim with whom she worked, Fuji TV reported.

Kotsugai burst into the lawyer's office in Tokyo's Minato Ward at around 7:30 a.m. on Aug 13 last year. He punched the lawyer, and when he was unconscious, pulled his pants down and cut off his penis with garden shears before flushing the organ down a toilet.

In calling for a prison term of six years, prosecutors said that Kotsugai had ruined the man's life with such a bizarre and cruel attack.

The court is expected to hand down its ruling on July 5.

Garden shears! How awful for him. 6 years doesn't seem long enough.

Only 6 years? This might encourage other men to do the same.

42 year old winning the affection over a 25. Either he's a stud, or the husband is a real loser.

6 years is a joke for such a violent crime. He's almost destroyed the man's life.

Ikki looks rock solid and is a strong, former boxer! that guy had it coming! I would never mess with this guy. I'm sure that 6 year jail sentence will be the easiest time in his life, as he imagines what he did the the guy. Totally like the game of thrones...

So you imply, death penalty would be the most appropriate way?

Ouch!

So you imply, death penalty would be the most appropriate way?

no, I imply a longer sentence would be the most appropriate way. There are bigger numbers than 6, shinichi.

There are bigger numbers than 6, shinichi.

That's what she said. Shinichi asked her how she knew?

Yeah six years isn't long enough. I would think 10 - 20 would be better.

This seems to imply the lawyer was simply a love rival. But wasn't there a factor, not mentioned in this article, that rather than be honest about having an affair with the lawyer, the wife lied to Kotsugai and said the lawyer was harassing her. So there was an element of him "protecting" his wife. My understanding from Japanese news accounts of this story was that the fact he was operating under incorrect information was taken into account.

Phalloplasty... I suggest the man apply for a "modified" penis. It's a tad bit expensive... but, if he explain the situation he might be able to apply for it as a charity.

Probably knocking him out at his office in front of his colleagues was sufficient. Flushing it is going a bit far.

Scumbag.

"So you ruined the man’s life with such a bizarre and cruel attack? Here's a slap in the hand. Don't do it again."

In more detailed articles it explains that the lawyer who had his penis severed off was only RUMORED to have hit on the woman, and that the man who did the cutting was lied to to get him to do what he did. It also says that the defence is seeking a suspended sentence and out of court settlement.

I say give them the settlement, on one condition: the defendant agrees to have his penis surgically removed and flushed down a toilet, and the woman have her breasts and reproductive ability taken away as well. If they agree to that and a huge payment, fine. Methinks they would absolutely not, so I say let the man rot in prison for the maximum sentence, which does not seem enough, and perhaps he'll get a taste of his own medicine. I hope the woman goes to prison as well if she did indeed lie, or even if not just for her role in this, but it makes no mention of that in this or other articles I read.

shinichi takeda: "So you imply, death penalty would be the most appropriate way?"

Yeah, because the death penalty is the next step up after six years! Sheesh! How about 10 years?

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Shouldn't this be attempted murder? Six years is not enough for such a cruel act baring in mind that he committed the offense while the guy was unconscious.

I just read 5-6 articles about this case, as I hadn't heard about it. The wife testified, and her messages with the lawyer and with one of her friends were released at trial. They had an affair for months, and when she thought her husband might be suspicious, she said she wanted ' to consult with him' about sexual harassment at work. She told him her boss had forced her to have sex more than once. In a line message to a friend she said that because of this story she'd been able to make 'up with her husband, 笑 (laugh)'. So he went and attacked the guy. She sounds like a winner...her reason for getting married was so she could adopt pets, the place she wanted to adopt from supposedly only gave out cats to families. 'A marriage is only a sheet of paper so I thought ' why not?' Geez.

He says that when he gets out, he wants to live with her.....excuse me while I go hit my head with a hammer..it would be less painful than reading any more about these two.

This expose the academic abuse of students . Our main focus shall move forward understanding the situation around this accident not the penis .

It is not hard to find a new wife. I have never heard of growing a new penis. The victim made it easy for the man to find another wife and now he will only get a cell mate.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

If you're going to play away, always a good idea to ask subtle questions to gain information about the males in your new friend's life... a boxer?... run a mile...

welcome to the worst case scenario...

Lawyers and doctors in Japan think too much about themselves. But still cutting it down is not the way to solve the problem, i think.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Indeed the husband had committed the heinous crime but it's very much true that you cannot hide the fact, there are some woman who don't even realize having a extra marital affair is such a sin, which ruined the family life of both the men's and women's and even their kids. Shame on all the three! As so called human being.

umm the older guy is a lawyer. Obviously that lady was attracted to the money he had, c'mon... Happens a lot except for the cutting bit.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

What about the boxer's selfish wife? How many years is she getting. That airhead should be charge as accessory.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Ouch! No plea bargain for the lawyer this time around!

6 years for whats obviously a premeditated and horrible crime is a very, very light sentence. Murder attempt and torture for me.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

people get less time for murder!!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

That criminal students is so jealous. Even the victim had affair with his wife he is not only one responsible for that crime. It takes two to dance Tango. As a western born, I used to touch my chin to Japanese female friends chins during the party.

After reading this story, I will not dare to touch their chins because I am not able to share the cruel fate with that victim lawyer. Inhumane and barbaric crime!

I guess he could donate his own...

He accused the layer of having an affair with his wife, but cutting off his manhood was just going that bit to far, the poor layer man will have to have reconstructive surgery on his manhood, this must have destroyed his confidence, he could be the laughing stock of his work, Iam sure he's got one sort two unsavoury nick name buy now, I hope he gets some communisation for all of his bodily losses, stress and pain.

cutting off his manhood was just going that bit to far, the poor layer man will have to have reconstructive surgery on his manhood

oh, it's beyond that - the assailant flushed it down the toilet. Nothing to do reconstructive surgery on.

This incident will save the lawyer money and bring his saving account from the red to surplus ...

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

There is no big difference between 6 or 10.

Yes there is. 1461 days to be exact. That's a huge difference.

Hmm.. never hear of Wayne Bobbitt anymore, do we?

One year per inch seems a bit short......

I'm wondering what came of the female here... it always seems like when three is a problem involving a love spat and the man is punished, no word of the woman. If the woman is punished we get this "IT TAKES TWO TO TANGO," "SHE WAS LONELY," or some other nonsense. Since the man involved in the infidelity lost his member, maybe a good clean uppercut from her ex-boxer husband would set her straight. He should, at the very least, divorce her with no compensation to her.

Whenever I read about this kind of thing, I remember something that I was taught at a very young age:

Never toy with the emotions of others.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Wife deserves punishment as well! Ruined the life of two separate men! We should cut off something on her body as well, maybe she will think twice before being a cheating Who..re!

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

6 years for a dismemberment of probably the most important part of a man? That doesn't sound fair at all

He is not first Japanese cut off a man's pens in Japan. There was a woman who got jellus of his employer who became jealous and cut off his penis. I think she was dead many years ago. She was in jail several years and she got out jail and she was classifiedin one of 50 women who agitated Japan in Showa era. Safe Abe. Check Wikipedia. It might has story on her.
