Both mother and daughter were taken to hospital. Police said their injuries were not life-threatening.

How is that going to work out when they both recover, with the girl always knowing her mother tried to kill her? It doesn't bear thinking about, the trauma of this child.

How long was it between the time of the incident and the time the father got home. Non-life threatening injuries seem a bit weird if the mother was really trying a murder-suicide. Not saying it wasn’t, just seems odd. Not that trying to murder your child isn’t.

Getting angry about it doesn’t help anyone. You should only feel sorrow for the child having to grow up knowing that her mother tried to kill her and pity on a society in which this scenario is repeated all too often.

I couldn't even start to imagine how scared the girl was. The person who is supposed to love you and provide safety, trying to kill you. That's a wound that will never heal. I hope systems don’t fail her, and that she is well cared for.

I also hope the mother gets the help she needs. It's something that will weigh on her for the rest of her life too.

You don’t know if the mother tried to justify what she did. You don’t know the reason for her actions. You don’t know if she’s reasoning at all. All you know is that the mother stabbed both her child and herself.

That family clearly needs help.

Sweet lord get this kid away from the mother IMMEDIATELY, and lock the mother up... let her get some help from a prison psychiatrist. But I think we know how things work here by now... she'll be let out with the judge saying something like, "A child needs its mother". Next time she'll succeed -- at least in killing the child.

49 with a six-year-old means she had the child at 43 years old. That is a very late stage to have a child, and it requires wealth to rear a child at that age realistically. This had to be highly stressful if she didn't have the support and financial means.
