Police in Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture, said Tuesday they have arrested a 61-year-old man on suspicion of kidnapping a 6th year elementary school girl in March, holding her captive in his apartment, and subjecting her to indecent acts.
TBS quoted police as saying that the suspect, identified as Koji Komatsu, had become acquainted with the 12-year-old girl and began giving her small amounts of spending money in order to gain her trust. Police said that on March 20 in the early afternoon, Komatsu offered to drive the girl home but took her to his apartment instead. Police said he threatened the girl and bound both of her hands. Over the period of her confinement, Komatsu inappropriately touched the girl's body and committed other indecent acts, TBS quoted police as saying.
Police said that when Komatsu left the apartment, the girl was able to untie herself and escape. She sustained no major physical injuries.
The girl's mother called the police and they immediately began their search for Komatsu.
Komatsu, who has denied the charge, was quoted by police as saying that he didn't threaten the girl and that he only put his arms around her.© Japan Today
