Police in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, said Tuesday they have arrested a 61-year-old woman on suspicion of killing her 36-year-old mentally disabled daughter.

According to police, Keiko Kino strangled to death her daughter Chiaki at around 2:30 a.m. Monday at their apartment in Yahatanishi Ward.

About 16 hours later, Kino called 110. Fuji TV quoted police as saying that Kino has admitted to the charge and said she killed her daughter, who suffered from an unspecified mental disability, because she was worn out from looking after her.

Kino and her daughter were the only two residents in the apartment.

But you said it.... and cases like this are waiting to happen all over the country.

Ah, yes! If someone is difficult to care for or doesn't love you anymore, just kill them! TIJ!

she deserves the death penalty this one, or life in prison at the very least.

Such a frequently repeated refrain. Perhaps more money invested would prevent such events happening so frequently.

It's very bad what the mother did. But on the other hand - and that's not an excuse for what happend - the Japanese are very good in discrimination. My wife who is disabled, is confronted daily with bad comments related to her disability, when she is on the street, subway or elsewhere. And that's the root of many problems and cases like this.

What is she supposed to do? She's been taking care of her mentally handicap daughter for more than half of her own life, and by herself for who knows who long. I'd probably be at wits end after 36 days! (I'm not long on wits)I I can't imagine doing that for 36 years!

More support groups are needed for families taking care of disabled, sick or old. Most important thing is to establish "non-judgement" environment so that these caretakers can seek help.

Eh, and where is the father?

sorry to end this way, it must be difficult for her to choose this way. she might worry if she is gone one day who will care her daughter. not an easy life for both.

I can't imagine murdering a loved one

she might worry if she is gone one day who will care her daughter

So she killed her out of love?

I do not know what kind of mental disability this daughter had, but often mental disability are being considered "crazy" and those people do not receive the same support that physically disabled people receive. I have a family member (not my immediate family, though) who has mental disability and he looks just like everyone else with no disability, so when he does or says something that's different, or cannot do things most people can, people look at him weird and think he's crazy.

For those who criticize the mother (I'm not saying what she did was right by no means), I just want to say it is harder to live with someone with mental disability than you probably think. You are constantly careful with what you do, what you say, repeat the same things over and over, you are told one thing and do it, and then get denied for doing it by the person who told you to do it (because they forget).

More than often, those people with mental disability (unless it is very bad), they are not accepted by those facilities, and so you take care of them at home, Or more than often, parents feel guilty putting those mentally disabled children in the institutions and so live with them, get frustrated, get sad, get angry, feel lost.. Hard to explain but I never realized how hard it is to have a mentally disabled person in the family until I had one (he was born healthy and this happened due to accident).

Not to mention this mother was taking care of the daughter by herself, I'd imagine it was even much harder.

So sad.

If you never lived each day with a reta rded sibling or family member, then you really do not know the stress the so called normal ones go through each and every minute of the day day after day and year after year.

It still doesn't justify murder.
