Police in Ryugasaki, Ibaraki Prefecture, have arrested a 62-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he doused his 53-year-old wife with alcohol disinfectant and set fire to her.
According to police, Fumiyoshi Iwamoto, a construction worker, threw the liquid on his wife at around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at their home, Fuji TV reported. He then used a lighter to set fire to her. The woman suffered burns to her face but was able to call 119.
Firefighters said about half of the house was destroyed by the fire which spread after the woman fell to the floor.
Police said Iwamoto has denied intent to kill. He said he and his wife were drunk at the time and that he can’t remember how the fire started.

Well, I hope the "drunk" excuse does not fly here. No matter how plastered, you do not set people on fire.

With a divorce and life in prison. Disgusting to the max. And what's his excuse?

Either cheap thrills or lack of anger management. Being drunk is not an excuse.

Mentally deficient behavior. She was burned, possibly disfigured, their house burned and her husband is remains a psychopath.

setting his woman on FIRE? must be kidding!! now that is extreme. We all have problems with our partners when LUV runs out, but killing them is a very bad choice, how about just kissing them goodbye and thank them for the good times, then move on and find a new love.

The good old “I was drunk and don’t remember” defense. Is it possible there is a problem with alcohol dependence in Japan? (sarcasm)

Police said Iwamoto has denied intent to kill
Set his wife on fire and said he didn't intent to kill her.
I am very curious what was the reason to set her on fire?
