Police have arrested a 62-year-old man on suspicion of dumping the body of a woman in a lake in Kanagawa Prefecture.
The woman’s body has not been discovered yet, but police believe it a woman in her 50s who has been missing since late January, local Japanese media reported.
According to police, Kazuo Iida, a company employee from Yokosuka in Kanagawa, is accused of throwing the woman’s body into Lake Miyagase in the prefecture’s Kiyokawa region on Feb 1 at around 7 p.m.
The woman went missing on Jan 31 after leaving her house. Two days later, on Feb 2, a friend of the woman filed a missing persons report with the police. Iida, who had been a friend of the woman’s, surfaced as a potential suspect in her disappearance.
Iida has reportedly told police that he took the body to the lake in his car and threw it into the water from a bridge nearby, Fuji TV reported.
Police divers are currently searching the lake for the woman’s body.
