Police in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture have arrested an unemployed 42-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he beat a 63-year-old man with a pipe and then ran over him with his car.

According to police, the assault took place at around 10:45 a.m. Thursday. Fuji TV reported that Kazunori Otsuka, a resident of Tsukuba City, is accused of attacking his victim with a water pipe, and then running over him. Police quoted doctors as saying the victim suffered a broken neck and will be in hospital for two months.

Police said Otsuka and the older man were drinking alcohol before becoming engaged in a heated quarrel which continued outside. Otsuka grabbed a water pipe that was lying close by and began striking his victim.

Furthermore, 30 minutes after this first incident, Otsuka is also believed to have slashed the arm of a man in his 70s with a sickle in an attempted robbery about two kilometers away. Police said Otsuka turned himself in at a police station at around 6 p.m. Thursday.

I know he turned himself in.. I'm still hoping he would say it though... you know.. the.. "I was drunk and I dont remember anything" winning card. He can say that someone told him what he apparently did, thats why he went to police, before they arrest him first. hehe..

Not really a laughing matter.. Please keep alcohol away from that guy.

How long this poor man will be in the hospital does not seem as important as whether or not he will be paralyzed for life. Let's hope he isn't.

Too much pride and adding booze to the mix dont mix.

Drunk at 10:00 in the morning - with that sort of impulse control, what could possibly go wrong?

Outside of what ? Where were they drinking at that hour? Before anyone says at home, there's nothing in this story to indicate that they shared a bond of friendship.

Stolen spot at hanami, perhaps ?

10.45am + thursday + unemployed + beer guess it's a pretty obvious formula.

Man, I could barely walk when I'm drunk. I am surprised how some people can get in a violent rage after a few drinks.

To many emphatically angry people walking around and you don't know when or where they will blast. Lock him up and give him enough time to think of his deeds.

what happened to respecting your elders?

Its the bully factor again id guess. I just watched a old boy on a bike scream at a older boy in a WHEEL CHAIR for getting in his way, i was nearly speechless until i told the old boy on the bike what i though of him.
