A police investigation is underway after a 66-year-old woman was found dead from what appeared to be a knife wound at her home in Ibaraki-machi Nagaoka, Ibaraki Prefecture, on Sunday. Police said the woman, who has been identified as Hisako Ichibe, was found unconscious at around 4 p.m. by her 61-year-old husband returning from work.

He called emergency services and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said Ichibe had sustained what appeared to be a knife wound to the face. An autopsy will be carried out to establish the cause of death.

The victim's eldest daughter was also injured and is currently in hospital, police said. Ichibe shared the house with her husband and eldest daughter.

Police found no clear signs of a struggle in the apartment and said they are waiting until the victim's eldest daughter has made a full recovery before questioning her about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Usually it a family member responsible for crimes like this but lets keep an open mind although it sounds to me like the daughter snapped. Well folks lets see how the lay judges deal with this one.If she is guilty no reason why she shouldnt swing. Come on fair is fair. You cant have death for one and a suspended sentence for another for similar crimes. Actually I dont think anyone should swing. Dont get me wrong.

@Billgates "sengoku38, why making such a quick conclusion? There can as well be a possiblity that there was no intruder at all."

I think he was saying the they should probably have security around the survivor, which they probably do. just because other possibilities exist, doesn't mean they should ignore this possibility and provide no protection. he jumped to conclusions? Hello pot, meet kettle. there really wasn't enough information in this article to draw any conclusions except that 1 woman was hurt and 1 was killed. anything else is pure fantasy which seems pretty common from a lot of posters here.

If you outlaw knives, then only outlaws will have knives. How can you hope to defend yourself unless you're carrying a knife as well? The only sane approach is to arm everyone with knives for self-defense.

The government should start a new law to track all knives by having serial numbers engraved on them and the names of the owners

I agree. Should be the same thing for kotatsu's too - they are also deadly weapons!

dasyhard - The government should start a new law to track all knives by having serial numbers engraved on them and the names of the owners.

Is this sarcasm? Or, are you just typing the first ridiculous thing that comes into your head?

Seems like all the violence are being committed by using knives and sharp objects. This bad side of their culture will never decline and just get worse. The government should start a new law to track all knives by having serial numbers engraved on them and the names of the owners.

Agree with bobbafett. This was personal. It was very likely the eldest daughter or some other family member. No sign of a struggle also suggests that the stabber was known to the victim(s?) Plus, if it had looked like a robbery/break-in, I assume it would say so in the article.

Sounds like another case of murder / attempted suicide, very common here where one kills the other then tries to kill self only to fail.

Various reasons why they fail but most often because they lack the resolve to go the whole way and make a half hearted attempt like alot of things they do in this country, half hearted not really fully commited, however this daughter should be commited once she recovers if my theory is correct.

The only thing I'm wondering is why they need to wait for the daughter to make a FULL recovery before questioning her. Surely there would be some point where she could be questioned as she's still recovering.

billgates, I support your hypothesis about the absence of intruder.

Ibaraki Prefecture again??

And I really can't imagine being stabbed in the face... that's horrific.

Oh, c'mon! It's just another murdered family member with a failed attempt at suicide by the nutcase responsible. Just another day on the island asylum. Case closed!

Or a fight between the mom and the eldest daughter

Knife to the face usually makes it a personal attack.

thats what I was thinking Billgates. By the way they say "eldest" daughter it implies that there are other children. It could have easily been her, or another of her children. Or a fight between the mom and the eldest daughter. Or a robbery gone wrong.

However RIP to this poor woman. What an awful way to go.

Hopefully nothing happens to the poor daughter before the police get around to questioning her. Whoever would go so far as to stab people to death might also decide to go to the hospital to finish the job.
