Police in Nagoya said Sunday they have arrested a 68-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he stabbed a man and his wife at a community center.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Nodate Community Center in Atsuta Ward, Kyodo News reported. Police said the suspect, Michio Maeda, stabbed the 54-year-old man in both shoulders and then stabbed his 49-year-old wife in the abdomen, using a knife with a 15-cm-long blade.
Maeda was subdued by other people at the center until police arrived.
The victims were taken to hospital. Police said Sunday their wounds were not life-threatening.
Police said Maeda, who came into the center from outside, did not know the victims and apparently stabbed them at random. He was quoted as saying he got irritated because the music and singing coming from the community center has been too loud recently and it irritated him.
There were around 30 people, including children, in the center at the time of the incident.

He could’ve just asked them to turn it down.

He will probably find the routine at his soon to be next residency much more annoying, but hopefully will have a long time to get used to it.

What's wrong with some people?

So sad people got heavily injured.
Some crazy people going on.
Being stabbed for strictly no reason must be psychologically very hard to live afterwards.
I personally check around me often.
At least he did not go for children but that was close.
Stay safe everyone.

It's only my impression, but are many of those recent fatal crimes are committed by the seniors in Japan?

Ruddy hell another one. What is making some seniors lose their mind and resort to ultra violence like this. Totally extreme and usually out of the blue. The usual scenario in cases like this would be for the chap to get cross and maybe go and complain and possibly have a heated row.
‘This needs to be looked at by the government, why are people losing the plot like this and committing these heinous crimes?

The least little thing (relatively) can set someone off.

There are many stories here relating to crimes by elderly men, whether sexual or physical. I watched a video yesterday about the Japanese prison system and many of the inmates were elderly, 2 of the prisoners actually said they committed the crimes deliberately so that they would be locked up, and so have 3 meals a days, kept in good conditions...etc..etc.. This may sound far fetched but it is very believable, especially if you have no one in your life, cannot afford to eat or are homeless.

I don't condone what he did but sort of feel for him. Some things in Japan are far too noisy! It can be irritating. However he should have sought another solution. Maybe ask them to turn it down a bit. The local government should be involved and maintaining noise control.

Another random stabbing of innocent bystanders...
Seems like those cases are on a monthly basis nowadays...
