Police in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture, have arrested a 68-year-old man on suspicion of killing the 64-year-old woman with whom he shared a house.
According to police, Hiro Sagawa beat the woman’s face with his fists several times at around 1 a.m. on Tuesday, Sankei Shimbun reported. Sagawa called 119 at 6 a.m., claiming that “his wife” had collapsed in the garden.
The woman was taken to hospital where she died about six hours later, police said.
Police said Sagawa has admitted to the charge but has so far given no motive.

Japan can be a relatively safe, with proper daily precautions while on the street AND at home, for most.

It’s seems family, ‘common-law’ relations & acquaintances are who people really have to worry about, . . . :
“Man killed 92-yr-old woman he knew, stealing ¥ from her” Sep. 1, ‘21
“27-yr-old man arrested over sister's death in Kawasaki” - Sep. 1, ‘21
“Couple arrested after mudering 18-yr-old girl” - Aug. 31, ‘21. . . as of late.

These types of ‘inter-household’ crimes shouldn’t be considered a reflection of the Japan’s overall National murder statistics. - However, there are NO ‘published’ statistics provided by the Ministry of Justice nor the NPA about “interfamilial” violence.
In comparison, (which someone will often try to allude) Most western countries keep such statistics to delineate specific types of crimes as not to drawn unfair conclusions about a populace.

“Rest in Peace”, poor soul. - “Condolences” to her family, friends & neighbors. - Please continue to ‘care’ for and ‘keep a watchful eye for those around you’.

Japanese old people are very aggressive, from my own experience. They are already struggled with their mental problems, mostly! After Covid, it is getting worse day a day.

"killing the 64-year-old woman with whom he shared a house."
A case where house sharing goes sour.
Do the hustle
Flip the switch and beat her to death. Anger management is a real problem in Japan. How many times have we read, “i lost my temper.”?

Just call it what it is! Domestic abuse! This runs rampant in Japan amongst the older generation!

i would guess here in Japan alot of men repress/surpress their emotions and they don't talk about it with anyone and just keep it inside until one day they just SNAP!
This is why i encourage my wife to meetup with her lady friends for coffee/afternoon tea so she can do all her complaining about me and our kids... this at least gives me some comfort she won't go stabbing me with a knife!
