A 68-year-old tenured professor at the Kyushu Institute of Technology in Fukuoka Prefecture has been arrested on stalking charges after he hired a private detective to find out where a sex worker lived.
According to police, Hiroshi Kaneda is accused of sending dozens of emails between August and October to the woman, who is in her 20s and who works at a fuzoku (sex services) establishment, Sankei Shimbun reported. He was arrested on Oct 27 near the woman’s home in Tokyo.
Police said that in June 2018, Kaneda became acquainted with the woman at a brothel in Tokyo and asked her to become his lover on multiple occasions. Although the professor was banned from entering the premises in February, investigators have revealed that he used a private detective to learn the whereabouts of the woman's home.
He drove to Tokyo on Oct 27 and parked outside her apartment and he also followed her to the train station, police said. The woman noticed him and sought help at a nearby koban (police box).
Following his arrest, Kaneda was quoted by police as saying, “I sent the emails and wanted to confirm where she lived because she wouldn’t answer me.”

It certainly clears up any doubts about naievity

So why ask?

Correct. However I assume Vince Black was talking about the Chinese "massaji" girls who have been flooding Tokyo during the last few years. In that case I assume his numbers are correct. (I always get accosted with "massaji 3000 yen" and "saigomade ichiman".) But that is of course an entirely different scene from that of the Japanese girls who work in the industry, which this article is about.

Vince Black:
Apparently you are new to Japan and its peculiar laws. There is not just a choice between "massage" and "sex" in this country. Outright selling vaginal sex is illegal here, but things like oral sex or sumata (google it...) are legal. That is why establishments can quite openly advertise. Japanese customers are aware of this distinction, and foreigners like you are not, which is one reason most businesses have a "no gaijin policy". (Speaking Japanese of course helps a lot.) And some others specialize in gaijin, on the assumption that things that are not legal will happen, and there is no point in trying to explain shop rules. But even those can not advertise straight out sex.
Hope that clears things up a little...

Yeah- you “know” a girl in the business. I hear you. Might her daily earnings have anything to do with your daily cash outflow? Not that it’s any of my business...

Most men who are smitten like this, whether young or old, don’t honestly mean any harm. But a woman doesn’t know that so she did the safe thing to involve the police. The innate drive for a mate in itself can be beyond the ability for some to control. There are physical levels of attraction that do not function at a conscious level. It’s why there are uncountable instances of conflict based on failed romantic pursuits.
Because men are on average physically stronger and operate under the influences of differing hormones (testosterone) that affect their behavior, it behooves women to play it safe.

The old man fell in love, what do you expect?

I know a delivery health girl who earns ¥30,000 per day, so your numbers are way off. Soapland girls can easily make ¥50,000 per day. There's a reason it's such a popular choice for good-looking girls with no other skills.

She must have blew his mind...among other things.

She is not the "product", Vince. At the most, she is offering a service or transaction. And all workers, whatever their profession, should have the right not to be harassed.

I guess he just didn't understand the "banned" and at a hostel? Surely there are many other girls who were and are willing to fill that void as his lover. He just didn't give them the chance or himself to meet the one.

Oh dear... and "policy" is so vehemently enforced in the sex trade industries isn't it. Her choice is a massage for which she pockets 2000 yen, or sex in which she gets upwards of 8000yen. If she chooses the former she might as well work in an izakaya. So while it may not offer coital sex as per their "policies", it doesn't offer much of a choice for girls in this line of work.

Maybe he had just refilled his prescription of little blue pills and didn't want to waste the copay

There is no love for the sex services, it's all about work there is no feeling involvement. Maybe in February there is?

It is too bad that as a professor of technology he was probably unacquainted with the wisdom of Blaise Pascal, and thus unable to tweak and update the old French philosopher's dictum that “All of humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room alone.” (with a computer or some other such device)

Vince Black:
No they don´t. The very reason they work through an agency is to protect them from harrassment like this.
As for your opinion, you might be surprised. I have met women who moonlighted at "deli health" who were university students financing their education. One I know married a wealthy expat later. This is not unusual. You are not talking about desperate drug addicts here. And note also that as per policy, "deli health" does not offer coital sex. Of course that happens, but that is a personal decision.

To be fair though, women low enough to work in this industry need to expect things like this. He's a customer and she's the product.

With the huge variety of sex workers in Japan its surprising he managed to develop a "crush" on just one of them.
