Police have arrested a 69-year-old driver on charges of negligent driving resulting in death following a car accident that killed a man and injured his son.
At around 12 p.m. on Tuesday, an 8-year-old boy and his parents were walking along a road near a camping site in Uenomura, Gumma Prefecture when a vehicle hit them from behind, instantly killing the father. The boy was injured and was taken to a hospital, Fuji TV reported. The mother was uninjured.
The driver of the car, identified as Fusami IIzuka, an employee at the camping site, was arrested on the spot.
The family had gone camping for their summer vacation, police said.

Was it on a bend or a stright part of the road ?
There are questions that this artical does not have the information to.
When walking on a road it is safer to walk on the right (for countries that drive on the right, walk on the left) so you are looking at oncoming traffic.

The "road" looks like it is a mostly private road within the camp site and has a little park with climbing frames near to where the family were hit. For the direction of travel, it is a downhill curve. After running the family over, the car toppled on its side, suggesting it was out of control, likely due to a brake/accelerator error.
RIP to the family.

Please slow down and stay alert when driving, especially where pedestrians often share the road. My experience here in California is that many park employees 'zip' around the campsites while doing their duties perhaps due to driving the same small roads day in and day out.

Japan seems to have the idea that everyone should keep within the rules, and so any problems are caused by people breaking the rules. So you are supposed to "go with the flow". Also why people don't check for traffic at pedestrian crossings.
