Police in Osaka have arrested a 69-year-old man for reckless driving resulting in injury after he hit a 70-year-old man on a bicycle and left the scene.
According to police, Koichi Higashimura, who is a carpenter, had his driver’s license revoked 20 years ago. He was quoted by police as saying he fled the scene after hitting the cyclist because he didn’t want to be caught driving without a license, Fuji TV reported.
The cyclist sustained minor injuries.
Higashimura’s car was identified through street surveillance camera footage

There was a similar case last year too. The fact that this joker and others can get away with driving without a license for decades doesn’t bode well for the passive policing of the J-cops.

Yes another case of old age driving accident, this time criminal. They cannot take is DL away since he does not have one. He needs to be locked up.

I am wondering why this man haven't renewed his driver's license for past 20 years. Eldery driver should be more careful on driving because driving skill would definitely go down when you age.

So periodic retesting and prohibiting driving by the elderly won't do a thing if they just feel like they want to keep driving anyway

Well if my math is correct, he would have been 49 the last time he renewed so that would eliminate the “I am old and forgot “ excuse!
maybe he didn’t get the postcards :-/

I think having one's license revoked means you cannot go and renew it because, well, you don't have a license. That is probably a permanent situation.

Throw him in jail. 30 year sentence. He knew it was illegal for him to drive. Should've been taking the bus.

I think my comments are always voted down just because I am a Japanese woman. I have been terribly offended.I just wanted to improve my English writing because you see that I am non-native English speaker.I will never ever leave comments in here again and tell all Japanese that this news website is mainly for foreign men.
Thanks.

@Yoshiko
I'm sorry you feel that way, but I truly don't think that's why you've been voted down. Lots of men get voted down to pieces here, and as a woman, I've experienced both sides. I think people probably just do not agree with you, that's all there is to it.

Also, looking at your comments, this seems to be the only time you're in the negative. That's hardly evidence people dislike you because of your nationality and gender.

Sorry. You're right. I got too emotional.Maybe bit stressed out today. Yep. My comment was voted down by only two people. I had better refrain from leaving comments because I need more improvements on my writing to avoid misunderstanding.
Thank you.

I just took the whole thing in negative way and jumped to the conclusion that I was rejected.I'm sure you are more mature than me.
Keep up the good work!
