69-year-old serial handbag snatcher arrested at Kawasaki supermarket

Police have arrested a 69-year-old man on suspicion of stealing a woman’s handbag in a supermarket in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture. Police said the suspect, Katsumi Sudo, of no fixed address, is believed to be responsible for at least 23 purse-snatching incidents in supermarkets in Saitama Prefecture, Sankei Shimbun reported Saturday.

In the latest incident, which occurred at around 3:40 p.m. on Feb 7 at a supermarket in Kawasaki’s Tama Ward, Sudo allegedly stole a handbag containing 10,000 yen in cash from an 83-year-old woman. The woman’s bag was hanging from the shopping cart when the theft occurred. However, Sudo was caught by a police officer after stealing the handbag.

Furthermore, on Jan 30, security camera footage showed Sudo carrying out a similar theft at a supermarket in Saitama Prefecture’s Shiki City. According to police reports, there have been 23 handbags stolen in supermarkets in Saitama Prefecture between January and Feb 7.

Police said Sudo, whom the media have nicknamed “Cart Sudo,” has admitted to the thefts and quoted him as saying he needed money for living expenses.

He could earn ¥10000 working a night shift in a combini, but he choose to prey on old ladies and prison.

What an absolute loser. Stealing handbags from old women for petty cash. These kinds of crims are the scum of society. At least he won’t have to worry about getting money to live on now. He won’t need any money where he is going. I hope he likes rice.

if you put him in jail instead of feeling sorry for him just because he's old, then he wouldn't be a serial anything
