7 teens arrested for pelting police car with eggs, tofu, potatoes after false 110 call

Police in Imari, Saga Prefecture, have arrested seven teenagers, aged 17-18, for making a false 110 call to lure a police patrol car to a spot where they pelted it with eggs, tofu and potatoes.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 12:10 a.m. last Thursday. Sankei Shimbun reported that an anonymous male called 110 and complained that a bike gang was making a lot of noise on a national highway. When the police car arrived at the spot, the seven suspects hurled eggs, tofu and potatoes down onto the car from an overpass.

Police said the officers in the car were not hurt but the vehicle was damaged. The seven teens, who were seen on surveillance camera footage, have been charged with destruction of property and obstruction of police in the line of duty.

Police said six of the suspects live in Imari and one comes from Matsuura in Nagasaki Prefecture.

The most surprising thing about all this is that the coppers showed up to a report about bosozoku, who they usually just wave to as they vroom past.

Tofu, eggs and potatoes - waste of a good fusion omelette.

In any US city, that would constitute a case of "suicide by cop."

The court should make the parents pay for a brand new police car and send the teens to a juvi facility for a whole year.

Hi smithinjapan, Yes, I do believe that sometimes just words are not enough during the process of educating a human being. Never watched a kid making a scene while the helpless mother just waits, exhausted, embarassed? I have, countless times, and that's called lack of a father's presence. Japanese men spend half of their lives in the office + the fact japanese women aren't that strong or don't have the guts to grab and bring a kid home by the arm. (japanese are obsessed about what the others might think about them) Ever heard the expression "a slap on the wrist"? It doesn't kill anyone but it educates. I'm not even sure if our palms really hurted, it was more about the reprehension, my father's angry look that made us cry. And no, no one in my family even drinks, and we are strongly against violence, so your example is invalid. Failing to educate your kids is one of the most harmful things you can do to the society. Crying abuse for people who educate their kids doesn't help much either. In my home country a teacher was dismissed from a school for trying to make the kids sweep their own classroom. Same thing. Countless times I saw an ugly adult behaving just like a spoiled brat, very clear traits of lack of some of the most basic education at home. In worse cases, some fathers "tame" their kids to be aggressive, self-absorbed and to always be on top of everyone else, the recipe for a perfect bully, who enjoys hiting quiet, well-educated kids. Please don't do this to your kids, to us.

Scum parents make scum human beings.

Some parents have to work lots, in order to support their families, and are not able to put as much time into parenting as would be ideal. Hardly scum parents, just disadvantaged.

Seems their educators must have been "negligent in providing guidance to the offending youths"

You would have thought they might have tried to cover the cams.

I thought incidences like these are reserved exclusively for "Coming of Age Day" next month.

Wow - talk about stirring up a hornet nest! (But why waste perfectly good food like that?)

What the power of surveillance camera footage! Hopefully it will work more as a deterrent against crime.

Tasteless and harmless. How about stupid?

I can7t believe the amount of harsh criticism for these teens and their parents. This is simply just teens being teens. In the states, we would go "toilet papering" not because we were raised poorly, but because that is what teens did. If this is the kind of trouble teens cause, I'm all for it! better than the gun violence, drug abuse, and date rape the is all too common in the states. Give them some community service and let them live the rest of their lives. If you never did a stupid thing as a teen, you missed out!

Let them do a few weeks as aids in convalescent homes. With no wifi.

Good protein, but a little starchy.

A good chance to charge the kids with more serious crimes and give them adult penalties.

Someone snitched. We ( 5) did the same with small oranges and eggs and got away clean, BMX bikes at night across school grounds then split up. Good fun.

Moderator: This act is not good fun.

And we all know the reason. Scum parents make scum human beings. When you're walking down the street and hear a 7yo kid saying to another kid "殺すぞぼけ"(I'll kill you, stupid) as if it was a very natural thing to say you can only imagine how tragic is the kid's environment. When you see a kid screaming to death and slapping the mother's legs while she patiently waits it all to be over or even crouch gently to try to convince the brat to go home, you realize the very reason behind all these nasty people that can't have consideration for a single human being on the trains, or pretty much anywhere in the society. When my father asked for the palm of the hands (to slap them) imediatly we would start crying and thinking about what we've done.

Saga ... the armpit of Kyushu. No surprises there.

Smithinjapan , " No doubt some, if not all, of these kids are being raised well..." How do you presume that?

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Yes, unfortunately the same brats who their parents allow to inflict themselves on society grow up into a-hole adults and continue.

Scum parents make scum human beings.

Bit harsh perhaps. We are talking about what was essentially a tasteless yet harmless prank. Peer pressure, some alcohol perhaps, most teens ('good and bad') could have take part in such prank.

There are many gray areas of parenting and sometimes it is difficult to differentiate bad parenting from good. Is a slap on the wrist/palm the same as spanking? I think that depends on the force and frequency. And whether the punishment was explained or not. Sometimes good kids do bad things as well. We all have tough lives and judgement is difficult without prolonged evidence.

A false emergency call to the police then ambushing the police car and pelting it with food. This is a "harmless prank"??

Tofu, that must be a good splat.

@johnydesu

Voice of reason! I totally agree. These are just kids being kids. I can't believe this is suppose to be considered national news.

....and why is this news?...on Japan today? O hail, peaceful Japan

I will certainly beat the hell out of your kids if I caught them doing things like in this article.

Touch my kids and you'll be fed through a straw for the rest of your life.

By all means call the cops on them and they will be punished accordingly.

Thunderbird, good post.

Thunderbird: "When my father asked for the palm of the hands (to slap them) imediatly we would start crying and thinking about what we've done."

So, you advocate corporal punishment. That's just bad parenting. Using your anecdote, your father could have come home drunk, demanded your palms, and you would have started crying wondering what you did wrong. Doesn't mean you did a thing, nor does it mean he would be right -- but you would think he was until you grew up, likely scarred by the abuse.

Saying it's the parents is just plain stupid. Yes, there are bad parents, such as those that beat their kids like you mentioned, but there is no proof the parents of these kids are bad, only proof that these kids are stupid. You've never heard of peer pressure? No doubt some, if not at all, of these kids are being raised well, but they thought it would be fun to do what they did, and there would be little consequences.

Outrider: "Smithinjapan , " No doubt some, if not all, of these kids are being raised well..." How do you presume that?"

How do you presume they are not? It's a safer bet -- and my point is that it IS a bet -- that at least SOME of the kids' parents are doing a fine job than it is to just suddenly blame all the parents for what these kids did.

Thunderbird: "Yes, I do believe that sometimes just words are not enough during the process of educating a human being. Never watched a kid making a scene while the helpless mother just waits, exhausted, embarassed? I have, countless times, and that's called lack of a father's presence"

Wow, so on top of corporal punishment you buy into sexism to boot!

"Ever heard the expression "a slap on the wrist"? It doesn't kill anyone but it educates."

Ever hear of a metaphor? Even if it comes from old traditions and you take it literally, which you're not meant to. Ever hear of the expression, "rule of thumb"? It stated that it was okay to beat your wife with anything so long as it was no longer than your thumb. Are you suggesting the metaphor is okay to be taken literally because it comes from some outdated concept? Well, you DID just say a father's job is A, and mother's B, so we know you buy into gender stereotypes already.

"...it was more about the reprehension, my father's angry look that made us cry. "

That does not mean he was right. He could have been wrong and you would still cry. Abuse is not the answer, nor does it imply "education" or "positive child rearing".

"Failing to educate your kids is one of the most harmful things you can do to the society. "

Agree on that 100%, but not what you call an "education". Educate them on right and wrong, absolutely, but not backed by threats and physical abuse.

"Please don't do this to your kids, to us."

Well, I'd certainly never beat them, nor threaten to, sorry. That is not education; it's negative reinforcement of personal opinion. Hell, I bet that IF these kids are the way they are because of their parents then it is because of abuse and bullying, much like a dad always punishing them, right or wrong, they feel the need to lash out physically on society and have learned it is okay to do so. So, backfire for you.
