A 70-year-old man who was arrested in Kumagaya, Saitama Prefecture, on Sunday, over a hit-and-run incident has been driving without a license for the past 30 years, police said Monday.
According to police, Sadao Nonaka hit an 85-year-old woman riding a bicycle at an intersection last Saturday afternoon, and kept going, Sankei Shimbun reported. The woman sustained serious injuries, including a fractured wrist and collarbone. Another driver witnessed the hit-and-run and jotted down the license plate number of the car, which led police to Nonaka.
Police said Nonaka has admitted to hitting the woman and quoted him as saying he fled the scene because he was afraid the authorities would find out he had been driving without a license for about 30 years.© Japan Today
