70-yr-old man held for strangling sister to death with cord in Chiba

A 70-year-old man was arrested for attempted murder on Wednesday after he allegedly strangled his 63-year-old sister with an electrical extension cord in their Ichikawa City apartment.

Toshihiro Otsuka called police just after 4 p.m. and told them he had killed his sister. Officers rushed to the city-run apartment complex and found his younger sister Tomoko lying on the floor. Toshihiro told the officers that he strangled her with the cord, and he was arrested for attempted murder. Tomoko was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead about an hour later. Police said they will change the charge to murder later Thursday.

Toshihiro told police that his sister asked him to kill her, and said he felt pity for her as she was exhausted from taking care of their mother. The pair lived with their 96-year-old mother, who suffers from dementia. She was not injured in the incident, police said.

" in their Ichikawa City apartment. " Why are they living together ? Family members can't get along. They need to seperate.

It's not easy care giving an elderly with dementia for so long. Something will eventually snap and this was the case, so sad.

Not saying I condone any of this, but wouldn't have it made more sense to kill the mom? Just sayin..

I agree with bamboohat, morbid as the thought may be. If the sister was exhausted from caring for the 96 year-old mother with dementia, why wouldn't you kill the mother? I absolutely would NOT condone it, but... let's face it, it would make more sense, wouldn't it?

Besides, if the sister was the one doing all the caregiving, what the heck does the brother do all day? He's 70 years-old -- is he still working, or is he retired? Is he the breadwinner? What the heck?

Poor woman.

I guess, at least, he turned himself in. I also agree with bamboohat. The grandma is 96 years old, she has lived a long enough life. Not to mention that she has dementia. She doesnt even know whats going on anymore. I wouldn't want to live like that if I were her.

The fact that they didn't kill the mother is really interesting, isn't it. I don't know if that means they loved their mother and couldn't go through with it, or that the guy is lying. Suspicious.
