Having seen that show many times, and the so-called talent they allow on stage, I find it hard to believe they reject anyone at all. I can see why he was so angry.

Hell hath no fury like an oyaji scorned!

Couldn't they at least have allowed him to attend an audition ? Being rejected for having sent in a postcard seems a little too insensitive ! At his age, it's probably his only small pleasure !

This is my fav show on Sun. I like the diff contestants that come on, the famous enka singers that cheer them and mostly guessing how many gongs they get. They often have a few oldies come on, even though they can not sing, but its because they have character and make for a good show. Unfort this guy's obssession to get on, blinded him from the real purpose of the show i.e. having fun.

Now I clearly understand why they don't have X-Factor or a Japanese idol show on TV over here.

he loves singing karaoke and that all his friends tell him he is a great singer

Everyone will say your karaoke is "great," even when it isn't. They're simply being polite. If he based his application soley on folks telling him how great his karaoke is, that's probably why NHK rejected him. .

Man, he really wanted that silver chicken they award to the oldest contestant, right before announcing the winner.

Another reason for me not to pay NHK, thanks dude!

At least the prison gets a singing oyaji for 3 years. No one wants to be imprisoned in that prison!

127 million professional singers in Japan. Nobody is a mediocre singer.

Using his own cell phone is proof he is not even "talent".

I wonder if he filled out the card properly? It's not hard, but if you leave off info, maybe that gets you the boot. Along with name address etc you have to give the title and artist of the song you want to sing and tell why you picked that song.

traced = check the card he filled in

Time to hang up that microphone, old fella. I'm sure his long-suffering neighbours ears will be relieved when the old bloke is doing time at his Emperor's pleasure!

This show is very popular & they get 1,000's of requests to audition so I guess he' wasn't the only reject in the pile- Better just belt one out in the ofuro for the neighbors!

How embarassing, being rejected by the Heisei-era NHK is a compliment to say at least. It's their way of saying, "Sorry, you're too intelligent/dignified to appear on our half-baked shows" but this copper sure told them how stupid he is.

If convicted, he could face up to three years in jail.

No 'if' he has offended State Broadcaster NHK.
