Police in Machida, Tokyo, said Monday they have arrested a 72-year-old man on suspicion of killing a man in his 60s in the apartment which they shared.
According to police, Koji Nitta has admitted to stabbing the victim in the neck after they had a violent quarrel at around 9:40 p.m. Sunday, Fuji TV reported. Police were alerted by another resident who called 110 to reported the stabbing.
Police rushed to the apartment and found the victim, who has not yet been identified, bleeding from the neck. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Nitta was found, with blood on his clothes, at nearby Naruse Station on the JR Yokohama line. He was initially charged with attempted murder which police upgraded to murder on later Sunday night.
Police said the apartment is managed by an NPO for recipients living on welfare. Besides Nitta and the victim, two other men lived in the apartment.
The apartment operator said drinking alcohol in the apartment is prohibited. Police said Nitta, who had been drinking beer and other alcohol, told them he got mad after being berated for drinking by the victim.

Some people do waste the welfare and the chance given by the govt. Living for 72 yrs and at the near end of his life, murdering someone. Mere words can't express the anger!
