74-year-old man arrested for assaulting neighbor after snow removal sparks argument

Police in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, said Thursday they have arrested a 74-year-old man on suspicion of assault after he hit his 62-year-old neighbor’s hand with the handle of a pickax.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 3 p.m. on Wednesday after the two men got into an argument over snow removal, Hokkaido Broadcasting Corp reported. Police said the suspect, whose name hasn’t been released, went over to his neighbor and complained that he was shoveling snow onto his property.

Police said the argument escalated and the suspect hit his neighbor’s hand with the pickax handle.

Local residents said that although the two men were neighbors, they apparently did not know each other.

If he had video footage of his neighbor putting snow on his property, a quick clip on the smart phone isn't difficult, he could take legal action. All he had to do was ask not to do it and if the neighbour is uncooperative then take legal action. No need to get into an argument. The law is there to protect your rights.

Lucky for him it was the pickax handle and not the other end !

another national news story in the Japanese press that strengthens my belief that we live in one of the safest countries in the world. Now if he had used say the other end of the pickax then I would place it in the news-worthy column.

If I had been the cop on this call I would have had a little talk with the two, had them settle the matter and said now shake hands and don't make me have to come back here again! Nothing to see here folks, end of story.

@Three goals I am laughing so hard video food of his neighbor putting snow on his property is like the neighbor taking video of the snow falling on his property. Do you really think an old man would have a smart phone LOL. Speaking of property the homes are so close together its very hard I would think to find or know your property line in Japan. Obviously this is also funnier than I thought because the article quoted "local residents said that although the two men were neighbors, they apparently did not know each other". Funny as hell because, the local residents knew what the two neighbors didn't know, and that was they didn't know each other!!
