Police in Yokohama have arrested a 74-year-old man on suspicion of murder after he slashed his 45-year-old son's neck while he was asleep.
According to police, the suspect, Susumu Watanabe, attacked his son Takuma at around 3 a.m. Sunday at their home in Aoba Ward, Sankei Shimbun reported. He contacted police who came to the apartment. Takuma was taken to hospital where he died about 2 1/2 hours later.
Watanabe has admitted to the charge and was quoted by police as saying that he had suffered physical abuse by his son many times over the past 25 years. "I thought I was going to be killed by my son one day, so I stabbed him," he told police.
Police said Takuma had a mental disability and had been staying at an institution. However, he had returned home to his parents' house on the weekend.

That's just so sad. A heartbreaking tragedy

Terrible, all around. I'm not sure why it was thought a good idea to return a disabled and (reportedly) violent man to be looked after by elderly parents. Obviously it was beyond their ability. Not defending what the man did, it's deplorable, of course... but it's not as if this situation was going to end well. RIP. Terrible situation.

"I brought you into this world, and I'll take you out" scenario has come true. Sad to read about it, but it happens. Just goes to show you should honor your mother / father.
