Police in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, have arrested a 76-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he beat the 84-year-old woman who lives nextdoor to him with a rake.
Police said Hajime Fukunaga is accused of beating his neighbour about the head and chest at around 7 p.m. Tuesday at her house, Sankei Shimbun reported.
The woman was taken to hospital where she remained in a serious condition on Tuesday, police said.
Police said Fukunaga has admitted to the charge and quoted him as saying he had been having trouble with the woman because she kept feeding stray cats in the neighborhood.

Well, he should have called the local government office or consulted a local vet-he sure didn't have to beat his neighbor...,,

People who can only deal with things they don't like by using violence, need prison and compulsory psychiatric treatment.

He is a murderer, despite his age he needs to be imprisoned and the relatives of the slain woman should call for the death penalty. Inexcusable

"Steven", you should get back to the Glory Land of Guns. At least not before you learn to read the news article carefully. No one was "slain".
As for the old madman himself, imprison him for year or two. Or make a single police officer monitor him. Should prevent any further crimes.

Why do people think beating people is the answer to all of your problems?

Sad, at that age to behave so irrationality.

Now he'll have to deal with the habits of his cellmate.

Perhaps he should be tied down in a room and have all the stray cats that no longer have someone to feed them scratch and do other things to him.
The neighbour was just feeding the hungry. I shouldn't get beat down for giving a homeless person a sandwich.

Feeding strays is bad it just creates more strays that live horrible lives, better off catching fixing releasing, but no feeding.
That said the guy clearly was off his rocker & needs to be taken off the streets just like the strays!

He's old, they won't put him in jail.

We had a problem in our street with an old woman who kept on feeding stray cats despite repeated requests to stop doing so. The cat population exploded and they would crap, meow, fight at all hours of the day and night. In the end the police had to be called and she was officially cautioned to desist from providing succor to homeless felines. I never for one moment thought about beating her up though.
