Police in Katori, Chiba Prefecture, have arrested a 78-year-old woman on suspicion of attempted murder after she tried to strangle her 9-year-old grandson to death on Monday.
According to police, Itsuko Takahashi tried to strangle the boy with a thin cord at around 9:10 a.m. at her home, Kyodo News reported. The boy resisted the attack and fled from the house, with minor injuries.
After the boy fled, Takahashi called 110 and said she had tried to kill her grandson. Police said she has so far given no motive.

"Grandma take me home."

I was going to say
GrandMa has dementia,
however this would not
explain why she would
want to kill the boy.
Maybe just evil entered
her mind.

Normal Grandma situation:
“C’mon Taro, we going to grandma’s house!”
“yay! I hope she makes cookies!”
Grandma Itsuko’s situation:
“C’mon Taro, we going to grandma’s house!”
”hell no! She cray! She tries to strangle me every time! And she always talks about Yoshinoya!”
“What did I tell you? She’s old, be nice!”

Wow, if you can't trust grandma then who can you trust? Grandma is supposed to be giving out new year's money and treats and taking you to play on the swings. This kid might be traumatized for the rest of his life just hearing someone say grandma.

More to this story.

Y'know, it's starting to look like the most dangerous place to be in Japan is in one's own home. Good grief.

Indeed, though as for murder and attempted murder I believe in most nations the vast majority are committed by other family members or close friends
