79-year-old man arrested for selling 290 porn DVDs in Osaka’s Airin district

Police in Osaka have arrested a 79-year-old man on suspicion of selling DVDs with obscene content in the Airin district in Nishinari Ward.

I would like to believe this is the real reason for the arrest, to get a hold of a possible bigger distributor and not just an old guy selling things for 200yen.

Always worth checking stuff like this, especially at such a cheap price. If they are released titles rather than home made, then they may be quite rare.

Given their content, porn films have low survival rates. They are usually binned after the owner expires rather than sold.

Is this banned content, like with removed mosaics? Because Japan has a thriving and legal porn industry, and I see old titles on DVDs and VCRs in second-hand stores.

The more likely reason is it was an easy arrest, and makes it look like they're doing their job.

Not uncommon to see Japanese pornographic DVDs and videos sold at temple and shrine flea markets over my years in Osaka. Is this where the guy was selling them?

That is dedication. But I can’t remember the last time I actually used a dvd player. Laptops don’t even have the drives anymore. Really makes no sense when you can watch any and every freaky niche porn genre online with the click of a button for free. As others have said though the arrest probably has more to do with how he acquired the dvd’s rather than selling them.

People should go for a walk around Nishinari. I used to do charity work there. It is a real eye opener for those who are lucky enough to earn ¥200,000+ a month.

Quite funny news! There is a Netflix series The Naked Director, about the Japanese porn videos industry that started with video tapes. Poor man, retirement pension is so low that obliges him to sell accessible entertainment videos to offline people that cannot afford to pay for expensive internet access .
