Police in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, have arrested a 79-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he assaulted his 53-year-old ailing son with a hammer at their home.
According to police, Masahiro Mayama has admitted to hitting his son Takeya several times with a 30-cm-long metal hammer as he slept at around 12:50 a.m. on Friday, Sankei Shimbun reported. Mayama’s wife woke up and called 110.
Police rushed to the scene and found Takeya bleeding from a head wound. He was taken to hospital where doctors said his injuries will take about six months to recover from.
Police said Takeya has a chronic illness and recently moved in with his parents. His father was quoted by police as saying he tried to kill his son because he was worried about his future.

Worried about "his" future. I'll bet the "dad" here was talking about himself!
But then, a 53 year old son, back home with Mom and Dad, what's not right about that? Dad should have hammered himself over the head a few times for his, most likely, lack of being around to raise him right!

More, daily intra-family violence in Japan. When will the Ministry of Justice recognize it’s obviously trending in wake of failed families, domestic policies, economics, SOE’s, etc?

Are social welfare resources so lacking in Japan that people's go-to solution is now murder? This is just horrendous. Not only does the man have a chronic illness but he'll probably now suffer from mobility issues and have to do PT for a very long time, maybe even the rest of hisnlif.

They are @purple_depressed_bacon 8:20am so, the Bureau of Social Welfare & Public Health provide “pamphlets” to help stressed families understand & cope with the special needs of the elderly & infirmed.

Everyday domestic violence and violence crime articles is getting worrisome.
The father was worried about his son ? What the heck !
Like a hammer is a good solution ?

Now the dad will probably suicide himself in shame.
The son will never recover emotionally or possibly physically.
And the mother how sad situation for her also.
Mental illness in Japan is a serious issue.
Its unfortunate for Japan that natural medicine like herbal remedies and aromatherapy is not recognized as medicine in Japan.
Therapy groups or self help seminars virtually non existent.
And the social norm of blame and shame certainly doesn't help.
Natural medicine was prevalent in Japan prior to ww2.
After Japan's defeat and surrender the USA imposed its medical system and took away many natural remedies like kanpo or traditional medicines.
And no ganja thanks to Nancy Reagans war on drugs.
If any situation results in violence then we all lose !

"I am old. I cannot trust my government. My son is chronically ill and will never recover. Who will care for my son with concern when I and my wife die?"
Life looks VERY different when old and Death is the next step and one sees their own 'abandonment', however involuntary, of a vulnerable loved one to an uncaring, even cruel, World... but sorrow and its effects upon one's thinking is hardly understood by those of little experience, shallow Human understanding, or hearts made hard by stunted intellect. And in a world of sorrow, 'mercy' can take superficially strange form...as we see in the routine 'euthanasia' (good death) of severely injured animals...this is a very sad story of Human agony.

Japan, the country of menhera. No one gives a damn about mental health awareness, so the umbrella solution is to resort to murder in case of doubt. The level of tragedy in this kind of crime is so high, my Western brain cannot even contain it. I can't imagine how the victim and his mother are feeling.
