Police in Saitama City have arrested a 79-year-old man on suspicion of strangling to death his 75-year-old wife.
According to police, they received a call at around 7 p.m. Friday from a 52-year-old man who said he found his mother unconscious when he returned home, Sankei reported.
When police arrived at the apartment, they found the body of Yuko Shimamura. The victim's husband, Eisaku, was also home and admitted to killing his wife, police said. Shimamura was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Police said the Shimamuras lived with their son and daughter. Shimamura said he had been fighting with his wife recently and lost his temper.

I predict these type of domestic violence and killings will increase as the population gets older. With the decreasing population this means no grandchildren to keep the grandparents busy and happy. Just the two grandfather and grandmother, day after day , means animosity and bickering intensifies. I've seen my share. I call it "second menopause".

79 and 75...it took a long time to finally really lose it. after that many years I can't believe that if they have managed to stay together they haven't learned to manage to scrape by despite anything. There must be a physical or mental issue for something like this to happen do a couple at this time of life.

When I read the headline, I thought it must be that he killed her to put her out of medical misery. I'm very sorry to learn that was not the case. Anger may or may not be justified, but letting it lead to violence is only justified for self defense. I feel sorry for the younger folks of the family.
