80-year-old man arrested for stabbing his wife to death in Ibaraki

Police in Chikusei, Ibaraki Prefecture, said Friday they have arrested a 80-year-old man on suspicion of fatally stabbing his 77-year-old wife at their home.

According to police, at around 4:40 a.m. on Thursday, the couple's daughter, who lives in the residence with her children, called 110 reporting that her father had stabbed her mother with a knife, Fuji TV reported.

When police officers arrived at the scene, they found Tomi Suzuki, 77, dead in her bed in the bedroom on the first floor, with stab wounds to her neck and stomach. Her husband was found on the floor beside her, bleeding from the stomach after he apparently tried to stab himself, police said.

On Friday, the man was quoted as saying that "I stabbed myself after killing my wife."

Police said a note was found in the bedroom in which he said he was worn out from looking after his ailing wife.

the daughter can no help taking care mom? it is quite a burden for 80 year old man to take care another elderly full time, especially at his age. i feel so sorry for them to end this way.

Again? The father should've discussed the burdensome circumstances with his daughter and other family members. Japanese families and their members lack serious interpersonal communication & intervention.

The above comments are made with absolutely no understanding of the reality and of a family experiencing such a tough situation... taking care of an ill family member whether by oneself or with the help of other family members. Please give a second thought of what you would do if you were in his situation. I spent millions over 4 years taking care of my inlaws with the help of their daughter (my wife) and 2 sons living hundreds of miles away. Lots of things go through your mind...pity, self-pity included, fatigueness, time consuming, and all other negative factors in care-giving. The only solace being that both of them are out of their misery and happy in heaven .. but they led fantastic and honorable lives when they were young.

Kapuna, Whenever I hear of elderly couples killing each other or committing suicide I just kindna have a sense of understanding the stress and agony involved.

The real question is why do so many fail to kill themselves after attempting or killing another?

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Because then it doesn't count as MURDER but as a failed DOUBLE-SUICIDE. And the killer gets all the sympathy and not a thought goes to the victim.

"the couple’s daughter, who lives in the residence with her children"

That would make the "daughter" about FIFTY-TWO and her "children" about TWENTY-SEVEN. The article doesn't say HOW MANY children there were living in the house but they definitely were NOT kids...

This was a house full of GROWN ADULTS all getting on each others' nerves!!
